As our trucks are getting quite old, I was wondering what sort of mileage is considered to be high.
There are loads around with close to 200k. Mine is over 180 and runs fine.
Whats your highest and what tips do you have for long living mechanics?

260-280000 is not unheard of m8, if you have 180000 now just keep doing what your doing. it's obviously working

If you look after your truck well and keep on top of services etc, shouldn't worry too much with the millage.  mine is 120k and runs like an airplane

How long is a piece of string? if a vehicle is well looked after and correctly serviced it will last years and go many times around the clock, a neighbour has a Daihatsu Fourtrak with 722,000 on it, and a Pajero 2.8 with 483,000 and both are original and just serviced excessively as they both work on the farm.

Are we talking kilometres or miles?

My MK1 is on 225k Kilometres and still going strong.

168,000miles starts and runs better then most vehicles ive owned.
serviced every 5000.

as the man says how long is a piece of string    , if any vehicle is looked after and serviced properly on a regular basis it will give 100s of thousands of reliable miles on the other end of the spectrum an abused and neglected motor can be reduced to little more than scrap in less than 50`000 mls , the key word really is preventative maintenance .

the sport has only 130 k on it but i have a skoda superb with 278000 on it and never misses a beat, oil change every 5k and good quality oil.

average mileage is about 10000 miles  a year
so for a 16 year old car 160000 miles is average

low mileage is about 6000 miles  a year
so for a 16 year old car thats .   .   .   .96000 miles that would be considered low mileage

my old Matchless bike (G3LS 1958) had 998,000 Miles on the clock and a little Engine wear!

sold it before it got to a Million Miles

the original Rolls Royce Silver Ghost of 1908 has 660,000 Miles on the clock, this Car went from London to Edinburgh 24 times locked in top Gear!!! , bear in mind the Year!

How is the rest of the truck doing at higher mileages?

Door handles, seats, etc.  annoying stuff if it breaks..

i'm still looking to buy a 2.8 lwb

should i worry if it's over 150k?

i know the engines are strong, but what about all the little bits?!

Mines a 98 Mk2 Facelift type 2.8 LWB
The body is OK but getting a few warts. Think I'll get them sorted before they get too bad.
Problems I've had at 180k are: Diesel Pump Seal replaced, Dash bulbs starting to go, replaced pads but needed to rebuild calipers, Starter solenoid replaced, Alternator replaced, exhaust about to go, glow plugs changed, rear door hinges worn, front roll bar drop links worn.
All normal maintenance stuff really. I'm an ex mechanic and do most of my own work but have so little time. The oil is dropped about every 4-5k, filter every 2 changes, diesel filter once a year, grease points regularly attended to, ATF changed. The car uses no oil or water but can get a little warm when towing and pulling hard up big hills.
Apart from that it takes me shooting, fishing, tows a 23ft caravan and gets filled with 3 kids a wife and a dog. I also work on railways and it goes anywhere I need.
