|
|
Hi everyone!
I am new to this forum and hope to learn from your experiences.
Recently bought a 2000 Pajero with the 3.2 Turbo diesel engine, which was parked for over a year as it was not running at all and diagnosed with a faulty injection pump.
After acquiring another used pump, my mechanic has made the engine run again but only at idle!
The engine starts after 2 or 3 long cranks and then settles down to a decent idle. However, the moment the accelerator is pressed, it dies.
There is no CEL.
What could be the reason?......... Is the used pump that we installed malfunctioning (i paid dearly for it) or does this sound like an electrical issue?
TIA |

waynec,
Tks for yr response.
When the pump was installed, the crank was at TDC (0), with the notches on the cam facing upwards and the small nick on the pump gear matched the mark on the flange plate.
Is there any other mark that has to be matched with the pump gear? Or on other gears?

Guys, I desperately need help
Me and my mechanic are totally stumped. Have advanced/retarded the pump gears around and still the engine dies when the throttle is opened. Starts and idles fine.
Does this issue sound like an ECU problem? Does the mobiliser in this vehicle behave in this fashion?
TIA |

The timing is OUT, the crank should line up with mark, cam lowbs pointing up, BUT, the lotch on the pump should be 1 tooth BELOW the mark, you line it up then puah the pump in, because of the shape of the pump gear it turns as it goes in................. |

Waynec,
Thanks for yr immense help.
Have lined up the pump gears and a friend ran a diagnostic test.
Fault codes 46, 52, 51 and 31.
What are these vgt, cam comm, egr etc codes for and how can the faults be fixed?
As mentioned earlier, this vehicle was acquired in a non-running state and seems like there is a lot of potential for unknown problems to crop up |

waynec,
Its one notch below as you suggested.
Yes, the pump is second hand. Cant afford a new one
The starting is slightly long (around 3 - 4 seconds) but the idle is fine.
The used pump vendor is insisting that the fault codes are the reason for the problem and should be fixed first. Do you think I should insist and return the pump?

waynec,
All four codes reappeared. What is no. 46?
Are any of the no. 46, 31, 51 and 52 codes pump related and/or cause this issue?
TIA |

DTC 46 is pump rom, on the gray 6-pin connector on the pump, disconnect it, on loom side check pin 3 and earth with voltmeter, it should be 4.5 - 5.5 volts, then continuity between pin 2 abd earth, it continuity is ok, prob a pump fault, if any of these R wrong its wiring or ECU... |

waynec,
Finally, was able to check the 6-pin grey connector (it has 5 pins and one slot is blanked off) on the pump.
There were no pin numbers on the connector as such, and since, only one pin was supplying 5 volts with the ignition on, am assuming its Pin 3.
However, there is no ground continuity in Pin 2.
Have traced all 5 wires back to the ECU and none are broken.
Should I try to get another ECU?
Once again, thanks for your tremendous help! |
