Hello all,
Just has a new Yokohama AT, tyre fitted, recommended pressure is 26psi. 2.8 lwb Shogun1998 , Ok, Tyre looks nearly flat, I have put 33psi in it and it looks a lot better and drives and handles well, although there is still a lot of tyre on the road, a definite leveling out.
In the old Mitsy, 2.8 lwb I used to put 40 psi and had no problems, the tyres lasted just over two years about 25k miles.
Any thoughts Please.

28 psi Front 30 psi rear in the book.
I find this a bit soft for everyday use, 34 psi all round and a small increse in MPG. |

Yeah, I've got 275/70/16 Runway Enduro A/T's on my 97 2.8 lwb at 30psi all round. They've been on five years this april and although the fronts are worn more than the rears (due to the power steering) they'll still do another two years. I drive her daily to work and back and do at least 10,000 miles per year.
Think 40psi was a tad high !! |

I don't know where Mitsi got their tyre pressures ! 2.0 bar for the 265/70/16 all round?? For a car that weighs 2.1t?
When I fitted the wintertyres, the local tyre-boys told me to put 3.0 bar. Suddenly, the car was transformed: stable at last ! I already thought I should swap half the suspension to get rid of the wobble. |

I've got the same model and year as you with 265/70x15 tyres, in the drivers door shut is a little mitsubishi sticker that says 1.8 bar at the front and 2.0bar at the rear. Good enough for me |

I would not think that is enough. Try pushing them closer to 3.0 bar. |

OK, OK I know that this thread is old and has been done to death, but I have read this thread until my eye bled.
So for a new Pajero owner what is the correct tyre pressures for a 1996 2.8 LWB with 265/70/15 COOPER DISCOVERER AT tyres. 1.8/2.0 on the door pillar sticker, but folks here say that is way too low??

Those figures are in Bars - 2 bar is about 30 psi which is what I have in mine. |

Mine are 275/70 R 16 and have 30 psi all round which seems really good, anything less and I get the bulge at the bottom.
I like the 4 psi rule:
THE “4 PSI” RULE
APPLIES TO BITUMEN ROAD USE ONLY
As a general rule, the following can be used - for road use
only: For passenger tyres, inflate your cold tyres to the
recommended tyre pressure on your vehicle’s tyre placard*.
Then to determine if you have the correct pressure for a given
load, note the cold pressure reading. Drive for at least 20-30
minutes to ensure they have reached operating temperature
and then check again. Ideally, they should be about 4psi above
the cold pressure. If the pressure is more than 4psi above the
cold pressure, you should add more air. That is because there
is too much friction, which builds up more heat than desirable.
Conversely, if they are less than 4psi above cold pressure, the
cold pressure is too high. Adjust your pressures accordingly.
For Light Truck and 4x4 tyres, use 6psi as a guide, but rough
and corrugated roads cause more flexing and your tyres may
rise more the 4 or 6psi. In which case applying this “rule” is not
recommended. |
