Hi all,
As far as i am led to believe the 750 kgs referred to in the trailer figure is the Maximum UN-BRAKED weight for said trailer I.E. regardless of what your towing it with you cannot exceed 750 kgs if it does`nt have brakes. As for the rest of it the wording regarding the tow vehicle being heavier than the towed vehicle, that is so you dont try towing something that is blatantly too heavy for the tow vehicle which was never designed to tow such weights but left a grey area if no weights were available.
In the case of most 4x4 vehicles as we are discussing here, the maximum towing capacity does generally exceed the gross vehicle weight, thats why your 4x4 is built with a heavy duty chassis, a larger than average engine capacity, heavy duty braking system etc etc.
The issues that seem to be raising there head here are with " Pajero`s" where there is no plate with a "GVW" displayed this would be viewed as a technicality by most VOSA officers which could leave you open to a prosecution and or fine, i`m not saying this is guaranteed more that it`s open to interpretation, hopefully common sense would prevail.
All of this is only my take on it, but having 20 odd years dealing with vosa and there predecessors there a very fickle bunch. |

Pajero's don't have train weight on plate as they were not ment for towing were they come from so yes we can be finned if court towing! |

Not strictly correct. In Japan, like a l;ot of other countries, they don't bother with a towing law as they don't want to make as much money out of taxing people like they do here. Also the driving licences and entitlements are completely different to ours hence, no information needed on a car they didn't intent to sell outside of their own country. |

i also need know the max braked trailer weight
thanks |
Email misti customer service as yours is a shogun yours will have official tow weights
Tecnecliy a pajero ain't aloud to tow anything and could prob be used against you in a serious crash as it's not been given an official tow capacity in the uk. A shogun has a beefed up rear chassis section
Johhnybob
You need the tow lisence as your not takinging into account 7 passengers and luggage your max aloud is 750kg the old bill are getting hotter and hotter on it. Just the same way as having tacos fitted for commercial work.
Ie : If were you work ask you to tow a caravan that is stock or a customer and you don't have a taco fitted then you will get prosecuted
I know this as a guy I do work for was using a disco to tow a customers boat and crashed on m4 old bill were involved and because he ddidnt have a taco fitted he ended up with 6 points and a large fine
It's really not worth risking it for the sake of a 200£ test the laws are only going to get tuffer |
