I fitted some very nice 6mm thick EGR blanking plates to my Paj today and thought i share some tips...

1stly
the exhaust manifold port, if your thinking you havent got a gasket for this you already have one! separate the EGR valve and pipework and theres a nice metal gasket there thats a perfect fit for the exhaust manifold port.

Next is the vac pipe cap, the normal place to cap it off is next to the EGR valve but why bother keeping all the old control valves and vac pipes if not needed?
so i capped mine off at its source

then removed all the unwanted valves, pipes and hoses

il keep all the bits just in case it has to go back on, but it does make for a less cluttered engine bay

BUT i didnt use the new nuts & bolts they supplied, there 13mm spanner size and from the factory they fit 12mm (no 13mm nuts/bolts on a jap car) and i got a thing about having the wrong size nuts & bolts so i brought a bag of 12mm spanner size M8 flange nuts to replace any 13s i find... the 12mm M8 bolts where the ones that held the pipe onto the egr valve.

yeah i know its silly but thats me, lol

:DMark -

What an excellent write-up and pics.  I fitted my blanking kit this weekend and whether or not your Paj has a smoking issue, it makes for such a cleaner, accessible engine bay.

When I trained (in electronics nearly 40 years ago) we were always taught the good engineering maxim of K.I.S.S.  -  Keep it simple stupid!  Unfortunately over the years this has got lost.  EGR is a recycle system to meet Californian and Japanese emmission regs - in theory it is a good idea - but in practice as we all know there are problems.  In the UK our vehicles do not need EGR so it is better to remove it.

I blanked mine a few weeks ago, and the result! wow better response, no smoke, and I can see that on idle my rev has gone up from 750rpm to touch of 800rpm, need to adjust the cable now, doesn't it show that the engine breaths better?  and over time it might even save me on fuel!  Wink

Just a little update.  Since blanking my EGR - see previous post - We have just returned to Cornwall after a trip to Nottingamshire and back 660 miles mixed motorway and ordinary roads, towing a Freedom caravan weight approx 900 Kg no sign of overheating temp guage steady dead horizontal.  No loss of power issues and no black smoke - Not bad for a vehicle with over 200,000 Km on the clock.

That's the kit I'm planning to get when I do mine when the warrenty has run out.  I felt the thicker blanking plate was a good idea.  Glad to see someone else has used one and they all has gone well.

hi mate,

It will be a good idea to put your pride and joy's details on your signature, so that we know what kind of truck you got.  As on some late models blanking the EGR ain't a good idea  Wink

I updated the signiture strip earlier as I realised I hadn't put it in.  I thought it would have shown on posts I had done.  If it doesn't show when I post this I will go in and check what's wrong.

just a breather hose goes to the egr, you pull it out and block it with a screw  Wink

When you blanket off the EGR did you take the inlet manifold off to clean it?
I have just had a new head fitted and all new gasket should have been fitted, them only being fitted for a week will I get away with using the gasket already on or should I get new ones?
