| The Egr cant be removed or blanked on the newer shogun sports. previous post is right it throws a hissy fit, best to take it off and clean it in diesel and blast through with carb cleaner. if anyone wants the instructions on how to setup the turbo please give me a hollow. Ian |

| Yes could i also get the instructions for the turbo pleae Ian... o.k i took the EGR valve off today to clean and guess what.. it was blanked off with a piece of steel.. now my shogun has been runing ok apart from a bit smoky on initial start up and taking a bit longer to start first thing aswell.. Is this due to the EGR being blanked off.?? Should i get a proper gasket for it?? |

I had slow start up problems with mine from cold too, (Before and after cleaning my EGR valve, adjusting the turbo etc).
It would always start first time but from cold you would have to turn the engine over for 2-3 secs before it would fire up and I'd get a bit of black smoke when it did fire up.
I've just replaced the glow plugs on mine, the ones on the engine where the originals and once tested one of them turned out not to be working. This was causing the slow starts from cold, the black smoke was the unburnt diesel.
Ive fitted some NGK glow plugs, got them from ebay for about £55, Now it's starts Straight away from hot or cold! |

Should have guessed!
I have a link to the exact plugs I bought, (if you want to fit NGK's that is):
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NGK-GLOW-PLUGS-MITSUBISHI-PROTON-SET-4-Y-733J-8944-/380318702642?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item588cc2dc32
I actually took my shogun to a guy I know at a local garage to change the glow plugs though. Only for the fact that I've read stories on here of glow plugs snapping off in the heads when trying to remove them, I didn't want to take the risk!
I applied some WD40 on the plugs for a couple of days to aid the removal, and then took it down to the garage, and he whipped them out within 5 minutes no problems!
Cost me £20! |

Guys i just found a link to the pdf file i placed on here a while ago here it is:
http://www.pocuk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=114118&highlight=
as for the blanking plate I would take it off maybe thats why it is running like poo, is the engine light coming on?
the manual is only for the 2.5td on a shogun sport or l200.
let me know if you need any help in setting it up ! I have found over time the the actuator does not work like when it came off the production line and the adjustments on the instructions are fine to initially set the bolts and rod linkage up but I have found that it needs more tweaking to compensate for the wear and tear on the actuator if that makes any sense

This smoke on startup is the classic symptom of your glow plugs need replacing, replace them and i promise it will fire first turn with no smoke, steer away from the cheap ones on ebay, saying that they do work but only for a year or so.

YAYANSEN
I dont know if you have replaced the plugs yet but it is an easy job, whip the intercooler off, 4 bolts 2 front and 2 back disconnect the solenoid from the intercooler on the back if its attached onto it, disconnect the fan wire to the rear right of the intercooler (a black plug), undo the jubilee clips on the 2 thick black air pipes to the left bottom of the intercooler and it will lift off and out so it is easier to get at the glow plugs and bar,
There is small nuts ontop of each glow plug, undo them a little to slide the bar out, put a socket over the plugs and undo. once in just reverse everything you took off.
Good luck Half hour job. |

Hi Ian my e - mail address is: jyansonanddebbie@hotmail.co.uk. i could not find the attachment from your other link to download the Turbo adjustments.. As for my Shogun yes the engine management does periodically come on, i take it that is because its been blanked then.?? Where can i get a gasket for it.? i ordered one from e bay but it was the gasket for the bottom part of the EGR Valve and not the top bit that attaches to the exhaust manifold.?
Thanks for the instructions for fitting the glow plugs, ill give it a try this weekend. |
