Thanks Geodrome, I thought so. I just wanted someone to confirm.

Fitted you gudie and it all seems ok. Just hope the missing bits at the bottom of the engine don't do any damage.

Regards

After reading all the posts about the upper chain guide I decided to replace mine. Imagine my astonishment when I removed the rocker cover to find the guide gone! As in the picture at the start of this subject all that remained was half the guide. I presume the rest is at the bottom of the engine somewhere.
My problem, is now, the chain has now tensioned, as the tensioner has done its job and taken up the slack.
Is there a way of adjusting the tensioner so that I can install the new upper chain guide?

Any help/suggestions appreciated

Thanks

I can't attach the file but I have posted it here on how to reset the tensioner. You may need to register to see the images

Any one know if the new post 2007 engines still suffer from the chain guide wearing. Have just taken delivery of a 2007 shogun and I don't want a repeat of my experience with my last car when the timing chain snapped, wrecking the engine. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Mitsubishi re-designed the guide, but I am not sure.

For all they cost I would change it then you will be sure.
I would also check the fuel filler pipes and make sure they are clean and protected. If you are buying from a garage and they are suspect get them to change them.

How longs a piece of string!
Mine was just over 82,000 when I did it.

Hi all
Changed the top guide this morn on my 2008, 101,000 miles done, the old guide was in good condition only slight wear marks from the chain. When removing the rocker cover the bolts were only hand tight, just wondering if this is the norm? I work for a diesel engine manufacturer and realise if you over tighten them you will squash the gasket, but to me they seem a little too slack. Has anyone else had this? I've built it back up the same as I found it but wondered if I should have tightened them more?

TIA

Should be more than hand tight mate, there is a torque setting but I can't remember what it was. Last thing you want is that coming loose.

There is a metal tube round the bolts to stop the gasket getting over compressed, the only worry is stripping the thread in the head. It's probably not much different to the setting for the slider.

Having slept on the thought of the cover coming loose, have given them an extra nip this morning. Don't think the cover had ever been off as the paint pen marks on all bolt heads lined up. Will keep a look out for any sign of leaks .
Thanks for the help
