Looking to try a bit of offroading for the first time. Maybe just a little greenlaning at first but not sure where to go. Will not be going till spring 2012 so not in a hurry for a reply. so if you read this anytime before then and have any suggestions please post cos I will be watching. Wife says just drive down a country lane with moss growing down the middle... I want a bit more than that to start with then build up to driving up Everest Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire as I live on the border.
Peak District Bit of a time off yet but if we end up having a run there around that time i will let you know as usually a few of us.We are going on the 29th Dec if you need a warm up Apart from Stanage were damage(scrapes is a possibility)on standard trucks, most of the lane are quite tame.No damage and suitable for non modded trucks.Saying that Walt has done stanage a couple of time in a standard LWB with road(seen better days)tyres he did get stuck, but nothing major check some of the write ups and vids, here is 1 of mine,17 mins in got a couple of good angles off the inc
I once belonged to a club up that way, dont remember there name but they were fairly active with lanes, rtv and had there own off road site. We were based in a place called Kniveton..A friendly bunch, Seem to recall Buxton was part of there club name...Not the most helpful reply, but a reply non the less
Wish I could join you on 29th. But it's a work day!
(so I can bend the other sidestep on Stanage Edge )
Try and get it off rich if poss mate ,if not will sort a Sunday run out in the new year.Want to do North Yorkshire and Lakes too next year Will get something sorted so it will suit you
Chances of getting 29th Dec off are slim to non-existant, sadly.
North Yorkshire would be handy for us, given we live there. But it's still an hour's drive to get to a part of North Yorkshire that's got any lanes - there's nothing really south of York, where we live. But get up to Pickering and northwards and there's loads.

Ok rich But Defo up for north yorks ,there is a plantation(logging) that looks superb too. Will look forward to a run sometime in the new year
Before it closed, my first proper taste of 4x4 driving at Langdale Quest, driving a Nissan Patrol through Dalby Forest. Some nice deep water and some steep descents. But because of how Langdale Quest mucked the Forestry Commission about (running away to Spain leaving big bills unpaid for example), the Forestry Commission in North Yorkshire closed off a lot of the access roads that were previously open to the public. This was a few years ago though - they may have reopened some now.
