More of a niggle than a major fault but the auto choke doesnt work on my motor. 1st start of the day you have to keep your foot on the accelerator for a minute or so at about 1500rpm before it will run ok otherwise it stalls, revs on idle once warm are around 750 rpm. Any thoughts or known issues on this?
Thanks in advance |

They dont have an auto choke as such. It's an idle air control valve. Which in turn is controlled by the coolant temp sensor. So either you I.A.C is goosed or it's getting a spurious reading from the temp sensor. Also throttle position sensor/ air flow meter may give you the same fault. Welcome to the sunny world of fuel injection my friend. |

Do a search for IAC mate you will find plenty to read on it as its a common fault. easy unit to get at and get out to clean as thats usually all thats wrong with it, read what you can about cleaning and the parts to avoid getting carb cleaner in.

Steve, I cleaned the IAC but didnt get any improvement. I will be changing the water temp sensor next but as I only use the truck 1 or 2 days a week I have just been living with it for now. I really should get it sorted though. |

Hi there, i would say that one of the coils in the idle control valve is open circuit,on the valve wiring connector check with an ohm meter terminals 1 & 3 and 4 & 6.

i made a good valve out of 2 bad ones by changing the coils still working fine today. also with a dirty control valve you get poor idle hot and cold. |
