your confusing volts and amps m8, your car is a 12 volt system so under normal conditions the alternator with the engine running and lights on will be showing 14.3-14.4 volts max. it will drop a bit under no load and with the batteries fully charged.
the amperage for yours sound about right at 90 amp. |

sorry mate, your right, i have a 12 volt, 90 amp alternator on it now, but this is not charging correctly as it's a second hand one from a truck mk1 pajero
i scraped a few years ago, but this did say that it was a 90 amp on the casing so is there a larger one that i can put on? |

the alt you have fitted is goosed or you have popped one of the fuseable links near the battery. you could put a 1000amp alt on but the one fitted is more than man enough for the job.
take your original one to a good auto electrician and get it bench tested while it's off anyway.
you need to know where the fault is.
was the alternator you fitted a known good unit or are ya just taking a chance on it being ok? |

you could be right, i fitted my paj with a volt meter on the dash and when i took it for a spin the volt meter started of at 12 volts and then it starred
to get lower and lower until it got to 9 volts when i could'nt use anything electrical, ie, i could'nt even touch the brake pedal or indicators because
the engine tryed cutting out
the dash lights came on low at first then got brighter and brighter as the volts were going down, i only just made it home, i had to use the handbrake
to slow down and stop, great fun... not...
anyway i might see how much milner wants for them?
could it be a fuse and why would it blow? |

Get your original sorted m8. Its cheaper and easier if it goes faulty again.
Milners alternators are a bit hit and miss at best. At least getting yours refurbished will give you an alternator that will actually fit back in your car. |

Price for a new one on mine was £135.98.
Took my old one off and sent it to a local autolec, New bearing/new bushes/ and one otherthing i cant remember now. All in cleaned and
resprayed £40.00. Yep thats right £40.00.
This was done a while back and she's still charging strong. and i got a 12 month warrenty on the thing as well.
Only by new as a last resort mate, I would..... |

hi lads,
i've changed the alternator for a second-hand one that i had in the shed, this only showed that it was only charging around 9 or 10 volts which was'nt enough and it would drain the battery's after a couple of days, so i've splashed out and bought a brand new one, i fitted it last night and it's still showing that it's putting 9 or 10 volts into the battery's, so im back to square one
can anyone come up with any good ideas, as im getting desperate now....................... |

You have got a very duff battery . If you have a 2 batt set up 1 can drag the other down ( or could be both ). If 1 batt then its kkkknackkkered. |

thats the next on my 'to-do' list but would it make that much of a voltage drop? i suppose it would but why do these things happen before x-mas..........
any idea how much a couple of new battery's cost? and can you buy them on-line |
