Looking to try a bit of offroading for the first time. Maybe just a little greenlaning at first but not sure where to go. Will not be going till spring 2012 so not in a hurry for a reply. so if you read this anytime before then and have any suggestions please post cos I will be watching. Wife says just drive down a country lane with moss growing down the middle... Laughing I want a bit more than that to start with then build up to driving up Everest Twisted Evil Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire as I live on the border.

I once belonged to a club up that way, dont remember there name but they were fairly active with lanes, rtv and had there own off road site. We were based in a place called Kniveton..A friendly bunch, Seem to recall Buxton was part of there club name...Not the most helpful reply, but a reply non the less  Wink

Chances of getting 29th Dec off are slim to non-existant, sadly. Sad

North Yorkshire would be handy for us, given we live there. But it's still an hour's drive to get to a part of North Yorkshire that's got any lanes - there's nothing really south of York, where we live. But get up to Pickering and northwards and there's loads.

Before it closed, my first proper taste of 4x4 driving at Langdale Quest, driving a Nissan Patrol through Dalby Forest. Some nice deep water and some steep descents. But because of how Langdale Quest mucked the Forestry Commission about (running away to Spain leaving big bills unpaid for example), the Forestry Commission in North Yorkshire closed off a lot of the access roads that were previously open to the public. This was a few years ago though - they may have reopened some now.
