|
|
Been having a few problems with my pajero 2.8td. It has been pumping out white smoke (smells like burning oil) and i have had to keep topping up the engine oil. It has been running sluggish when revving idle and chucking out quite a bit of white smoke. Well today when i was revving at idle the engine revved up on its own to around 7000 revs i turned the key and the engine carried on revving disconnected the batteries and it kept on over revving it carried on revving for around 30 seconds then it blew all the coolant oout of the top of the radiator and the engine cut out.
I thought the engine had blown all together but when i turn the engine over it starts fine but stills chucking out white smoke? and there still seems to be pressure in the coolant system?
Any ideas?
Head gasket blown?
Cheers... |

Sounds to me like head gasket has gone
Not sure about the over revving on it's own bit though, hopefully someone will be able to answer better soon. |

Agree with John, Turbo seals have failed allowing the turbo oil pressure feed to bypass the seal and cause your engine to "run away" , sounds unfortunately like (revving at 7000!!!!! ouch!) might well have caused the head to crack or the gasket to fail as well. Dont run it again untill you get it sorted, or it will do it again. |

First thing I would do is to see if your fuel is contaminated with engine oil by changing your fuel filter and seeing what's in it. Or maybe look in the tank and look for remains of engine oil. |

Sounds to me like people are getting a tad confused?
Demo316 said his oil level was constantly going down and the exhaust smelt of oil, so i doubt its the injector pump seal.
A large amount of white smoke is prolly heated engine oil, not burnt but heated as its being dumped into an exhaust system full of hot gasses from a badly leaking turbo seal on the exhaust side, and if the shaft bearings are that bad theres a fair chance the inlet side turbo seal would have gone too, causing enough oil to leak into the induction side for the engine to have run away like it did.
First thing to do is check the turbo shaft for wear. remove the large rubber pipe that runs from air filter casing to the turbo so you can see inside the turbo, it will look something like this;

then using your fingers see if it has much up and down and in and out play. |

Sorry to say this but I agree with Mark, and far too many people offering duff misleading info. Surely its better to say nothing unless you know. |
