Hi all its me --AGAIN

I've had a lot of problems with charging my Pajero  (http://www.pocuk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=136918&highlight=) so replaced the alternator with a Genuine Mitsubishi one and put an ammeter in line, but still the battery keeps going flat(although its only a year old)I'm getting the right voltage to the battery BUT very, very little amperage(according to the ammeter and a test meter)it there a voltage controller somewhere in the car, or is it in the alternator,as I have been through THREE batteries in FOUR years, surely its not my bad luck to keep getting Duff batteries.
I have taken off the negative connection off and put the test meter between the battery earth and the earth leads and the drain is less than 0.01 amp, which is probably the clock and radio, any ideas anyone.
I have even added extra earthing points to rule out a bad earth.

Electrical faults are notoriuosly difficult to track down as you obviously know. If you cannot get to the bottom of this I can recommend a good Auto Electrician at Langley Mill NG16 4AD I've never been dissapointed and price is reasonable. If its not obvious I always go to them. I've not been for a few years though.

Yeah, no probs, But I would give them a call first. I havn't used them for a while. They are up a track off the main road. Google Earth the post and you'll see sign at the end of the track. Good luck and let me know the outcome.

hello im new to this site but i had a battery drain on an old transit years ago that turned out to be the interior light so it may be worth pulling the fuse and seeing if you still get the same reading on the meter .

Hi. When you say you're getting the right voltage to the battery, what voltage are you getting?

When You check current draw on battery make sure you do the test with doors locked it could be door lock or alarm/immobiliser causing drain.

Hi Halfman,
I'm with Bernard Shaw. What voltage are you getting? If it's lower that 13.8-14.2 (or much higher[around 15v])you're NOT getting the right voltage.
If you are indeed getting around 14volts (depends where you're measuring it) try putting the meter directly between the single terminal on the alt. and ground, are you getting 14v there? if so, try the same test at the battery and ground, should be the same, if not, you've likely got a  high resistance connection somewhere causing your grief, the regulator "sees" the high resistance as a fully charged battery.
Two things will "duff" a battery, being flat most of the time, and being grossly overcharged most of the time.

Did you go to the auto electrician? If you did, what was the outcome?

Regards,

Rob.

A bit of a late answer-I know, I ended up changing the battery and the alternator and everything seems to be good again.

Hi HALFMAN
Glad you've sorted it, in another post in this forum I mentioned that my alternator is also playing up. Most of the time I drive in conditions that don't need lights and things, so the alt. doesn't have to work too hard, but my son used my paj to get to work a couple of consecutive nights and the shortfall in the alt really came into it's own; looks as though I'm going to have to replace the regulator sooner than later.
