Found the Control Sleeve Position sensor was not giving the correct resistance readings and also Fuel Temp Sensor was not correct.
There was no fault codes for them though. Crying or Very sad
Can't afford a full rebuild so will just do the sensors.
Wish I had checked pump harness first but was thrown by having a couple of fault codes that are a common failure.

Has anyone changed these parts?
The Control Sleeve Sensor is part of the Electric Governor and sits on the top of the pump, has anyone got an old pump that's mechanically broke but sensors are ok?
I have a friend who is a marine engineer and he can hopefully get the parts new, like everyone I am trying too save money.
Will try and post pictures when I do the job.

It's now time for the pump to come off. Worst case is water egress and the internals are rusty, or the cam has failed and broken up. Sad
Whatever it is it's expensive!

Thanks for your kind wordz.
I bought it to replace a 2.8 swb pajero which ran like a dream, but was to small for a new family two dogs and a grandfather.
Beginning to wish I had kept it and replaced the wifes Astra with a big BMW or Merc estate. Cant stand people carriers.

Well tomorow's the big strip down. Pump coming off and thinking of sending it down to DieselBob. Had injectors from them for the old 2.8.
Will also take inlet manifold off and clean it out, it is really gungie with oily soot caked on it.
 Confused

Well the pump is off took 3hrs working slowly and carefully.
Started by removeing manifold and fuel pipes, after taking covers from pump and clearing battery and filter. Then took off rocker cover and glow plugs moved engine to TDC. Next was vacuum pump and power steering pump followed  by aircon pulley tensioner
And cover behind it. This removed the bolts from the front off the pump, lastly removed rear mount and took pump out made marks on front for timing first.
As the pump is going for repair I opened the top to look for damage everything looked ok, full of diesel which I think is normal. Then took actuator off and manually slid sleeve forward and turned pump fuel spurted out of pipes, slide sleeve back to closed position no fuel!
I called Bosch uk and spoke to a very helpful technician who said he had never heard of an actuator failing electrically with open circuits. Put me in touch with  Airylea Motors in Aberdeen as the only fully equipped Bosch agents in Scotland who can do the VRZ pump, there are only 6 equipped agents in the UK. Three others in England are Feathers, Merlin and Kent Diesel.
My pump is heading to Aberdeen as I spoke to one of the owners and was very impressed, a long established family company. They are going to examine it and fix what is broken he didn't push for a recon pump. Like most of the others I spoke too.
Will post pix but need to do it from my laptop.

Good news and bad news!
Good, the pump is being looked at and tested. Very Happy
BAD, it's fubar'd it is giving inconsistent readings and outputs of fuel. Now getting stripped down to get a proper picture of the faults. Looking like the head with the outlet pipes and electric actuator as well. Heading towards a rebuild.
If Mitsubishi can recall cars for pitman arms then maybe they should be recalling all these pumps as it must ne a design flaw!

Got problem with starting once warm, keep hoping it's not the pump. Nothing showing on the dealers mutt tester? Think your going down the route I'd take. Keep us posted.

If you need the pump done can highly recommend Airylea motors in Aberdeen.  They have kept me informed at every stageof the job so far. Pump to be rebuilt next week.
