Hav'nt got the answer, but seems like this is a common problem and would be agood idea for pics and tips to people who are about to undertake this job. Mine does'nt cut out or stall, but it does jerk when in reverse when warmed up, and seems to want to pull away when in drive at lights. So may have to do this job myself if this is my problem. The tools are a 10 mm socket with a wobble extension for the top one it it fiddly to get at you need to remove the throttle body. The bolt is easily removed with a magnet on a stick thing. Top one needs turned slightly to remove plug need to remove foam packing first.
The side one needs the battery removed for easy access then a 12 mm spanner to remove the covers. Once cover off it is quite simple.
Try swapping them over side one is a back up sensor.

Thanks very much for that info once again,
Ive located two new speed sensors and am hoping theyre with me tomo, so hopefully over the weekend we will try these.
Decided on new ones as hopefully a longer life.
Ive searched you tube as well for the HOW TO on the subject but no joy , may even sort that myself to help others!
Mate of mine is a mechanic and he has been nominated!!Just hope this sorts it.
Another common issue with these motors is the inaccuracy of the system to identify whats down!! GOOSE CHASE!!
Many thanks chaps

John

Tell me about it!
I followed fault codes and spent £400 on parts that were fine. Now selling old ones on auction site. Speed sensors and throttle pedal next.

Sensors

This is the top sensor rhs of pump

Insitu

Top sensor under alloy bracket, side sensor above power steering pipes grey plugs.

Everything removed for fitting pump

Sensors are on the casting that the pump is attached to. Not the pump its self.

You are something else!!!
I really appreciate that..very clear pictures too.
I actually got a call today telling me the sensors were in, so i wrapped up work early and got right into the job at hand!
I have changed the awkward one after removing the throttle linkage, damn tight behind there aint it !?
Where i exposed the innards of the egr its heavily carbonised, so that will be off in the morning along with the second sensor and
fingers crossed were all good !!
Thanks a million for sending pics , a real help in locating them.
Tommorrow is D-DAY !!!

cheers,

john

It's a right bar steward the top one, side one is a bit of stripping down, bottom bolt on cover is tight to get out due to pipe work. Use an open ended spanner. Hth

jmcmahon38536,

geodrome certainly knows his stuff!!  He's a far braver man than I.

Have a read of the jobs he's done!! He's up there with the best of them!

Watford to Argylleshire to buy him that drink and to test that those sensors work properly???
An easy trip once you've fixed that truck of yours!!  Make sure you have a fuel tanker in tow though! Laughing

Regards,

MC

Thats a fact, wished i had the man in my pocket right now !!
Just had a day on the motor , put the second speed sensor in, much easier than the second !!
Cleaned the EGR valve, put it all back togeather and took it for a drive.........and its still the same!!!!!
Lots of fffffs !!!
Question ? would the throttle position sensor cause these issues ?
ie warming up and then running like a pig, lumpy, loss of power...Help!!!
Many thanks to all who have already..

John

I was waiting to hear you'd been successful with the sensors and guessed you'd have spent today under the bonnet!
Very disappointing when you spend hours on end and £££££'s, only to find it still has the same error!
There are many on here that are very knowledgeable when it comes to solving Pajero / Shogun problems, sadly, I'm not one of them!
Let's hope one of the clever people will be along soon to help you sort it!
