I am interested to know, if it is standard to have water cooling on the turbo I have split the pipe and the mitsi dealer seems to be having difficulty tracking it down. The pipe runs from the distribution manifold after the water pump along the block and out to the turbo and sited on the side face of the turbo below the oil inlet

definately water,

Because Coolant was what was pouring out of it, and the other end of it is attached to a common manifold, with the bottom radiator hose.

It does look very much like the oil pipe but that fits on the top of turbo with drain on the bottom of the turbo.

this pipe and another both with banjo unions site presumably feed and return sits on the side of the turbo directly between the oil path ie at 90 degrees

I have both the Haynes and Ruseks manuals and both of these refer to the possibilty of cooling pipes the Ruseks says that the cooling system must be drained if the turbo charger is water cooled.

The turbo charger has mitsubishi casting marks on it so I guess it is genuine.

OK if I can't trace the part what are my options

Is it feasible to repair the pipe by having it braized?
It possible to have one made?
Do I scrap the Pajero Crying or Very sad

not a brilliant picture but I guess if you look at the turbo near the bottom of the intercool hose you don't have these extras

Boff

I've not seen this before, but if it all looks genuine Mitsu, then I'de be inclined to pop to my local dealer and see if they have the part listed for a shoggy.... After all, they are the same engine / turbo!

I'd love to see picturesof the turbo where this pipe attaches to. Also the return. You said the Send comes from the bottom hose, does the return come right up to the top hose?

8) afternoon, I've used a company called 'pirtek' for pipes when building my race cars (www.pirtek.co.uk). they have a phone number to call on their website, have found them fairly helpful. Could be worth a try to get one made up, would probably be a metal braided flexible 'goodridge' type pipe rather than a rigid one, but would be ok for coolant I would think...

Hi boff the 2.5 turbo is water cooled mate i dont see why the dealers cant locate the part. Ya best bet is to go to the parts desk and have a look at the microfiche i presume it will be layed out like it is in the russek manual.
Failing that i would have a ring round the various breakers. hth

Cheers

Mark

Boff, if you call me, 07985 117 277, I will nip up, have a look, take the pipe of you and try to get it fixed, only problem is I am away wendesday afternoon, so if you can bring the pipe down, hurry, other than that, try Dave Kelly, sorry no number, out on the ind estate, head down towards, the little cafe, which should be on your right, carry on, miss the turn for Demon Tweaks, and he should be there on your right, loads of landrover things out side, see if he can help.

peter
you will not get a water only turbo! they all need oil for lub/cooling. it would however seem that you can get water cooled aswell as oil. in your case you should get the same as what was removed or you could have all sorts of problems! ie. if you had an oil only to start with and you fitted an oil/water turbo, you would not be getting the correct amount of cooling as you would have no facility on your engine to plumb the water suppy in. so its life would be very short due to overheating.
there should be enough on the second hand market to match your original.
good luck

Update

I have some more info and some pictures of pumbing

This first photo shows the connection comes from the coolant to the turbo
the second photo shows where it returns via the oil cooler back to the coolant system.

As you can see these fit onto cast parts so it is not a bodge job in that respect

The turbo fitted is a TF035 this is not shown as been fitted to 2.8 pajeros
but it shown as been fited to the 2.8 98- challenger so maybe that where it has come from?

Are there any challanger owners who could look to if this is like their layout? pleaseeeeeeeeeee
