2wd-----4wd  depends weather, road conditions, time, etc etc, basicaly, 2wd if every thing is ok, 4wd in bad weather, rough roads etc.

Biggest problem, is balance, you really shoud try different tow ball heights, no snaking etc, the dog takes the tail behind, the tail, don't wag the dog !!

P.S. Don't start me on tachographs etc, got all that on in court at this momet.!!!!  and it looks like VOSA is going to win !!

The maximum train weight should be stamped on the VIN plate.
If there is no train weight then you cannot legally tow anything Shocked

I vaguely remember it being something to do with whether or not you are towing as a "business" then you come under "tacho" rules if your over 5 ton train weight. I dont suppose it would matter to most though

Ive tried my 2.5 in 2h and 4h and in the d gear towing my caravan and 3 kids and 4 adults there doesn't seem all that much difference really, it struggles a bit on big hills and gets a bit hot, I would have thought 4wd would make it work harder having to drive all the gears and extra prop shaft the only time I use 4wd is in the snow or mud. or somthing.

yes it looks exactky like that, when I got in it this morning I noticed it even has Super Select written on the bottom of the 4x4 system diagram on the dash. What does it mean if the top pair of lights flash on that diagram?

I am pretty much the same as you. I only use 4wd in the snow or drop it in just to keep it all working once in a while. I am mostly focused on lowering fuel consumption and find that staying in 2h is more economical. That said, pulling out onto a busy wet roundabout is clearly better in 4wd, especially when towing!

Isnt there some rule about a 5 tonne "train" weight maximum! Confused

Only if test was taken post 97,max weight dependent on truck varies, swb is 2.5 or 2.8t where as the lwb varies from 3300kg up to 3.5t on later models.

So having my test pre 97 i can legally tow up to 3.5t in top of my truck weight. So my truck say is 2.5t +3.5t then 6t is perfectly legal for me.However i would not be too keen on towing that weight Laughing  the tail could wag the dog Laughing

I passed my test this year and im only allowed to tow a maximum of 3500kg...my 2.5 shortie has a mgw of 2500 so im allowed to tow a trailer with a mgw trailer of 1000kg.
Can you tell ive researched this!!! Laughing

Some of us just couldnt b ar5ed to pass our test at the appropriate age!
Why have a dog n bark ur sen! but as the kids got older and moaned at me to take them places
I had to be a mature learner lmao! i was the oldest by 10 yrs n more at the test centre!

but yes the drawback is in order to tow owt i have to do a test that involves driving round cones and reversing  Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes

Nope, there is no restriction on the type of light, you could do sumit like i have just above the rear number plate.
Works fine wired into the reverse lights and is a 55w halogen pointed down to about 15ft away from the truck.
Lights up a treat.
