I recently bought my first 4x4 ,but i noticed straight away that the gearlever is like shifting a wooden spoon in a bucket of baked beans with a special 'ann summers' type lady device inbuilt.

I rang mitsubishi leeds and asked them for a new gearlever bushing, I explained to him to I live in lithuania so it needed to be right,
the parts fella sent me a little bit of plastic that looks like it fits on the end of the lever, however i tell straight away that it is not a complete bushing for the gearlever

I sent him a picture of the part that i also needed to do the job properly.

I expected him to say that he could send me the rest, however he has come back to me with a price of £199 saying i need a complete new gearlever...to me this bu!!$h17 and they just want to fleece me for £199.

So I decided to investigate it myself 1st so get the right parts.

STEP 1
Take out the screws i the centre console 2 left 2 right.

STEP 2
Unscrew the gearlever and transfer box knobs, gently pull the shifter surround towards you (holding the leather gaiter) and slide over the levers and put to one side.

STEP 3
This is what you will see, undo all the nuts using a 10mm socket, be aware that there is a nut hiding under the carpet on the right hand side opposite to the one on the left, put all the nuts/screws in the cup holder (very handy) and lift off the silver metal retaining plate (it takes a bit of  jiggling and you may have to move the levers to get it off, once off put it to one side, then pull the rubber gaitors up so you can access the 12mm gearlever bolts.

STEP 4
I forgot to take a picture of this but just follow the instructions.

At the base of the lever you will see 4 nuts 12mm with a cross head on them, undo these carefully and be careful not to drop them into the transmission tunnel (they have spring washers on them so dont lose them either)
Carefully undo all 4 and the gearstick will come free (you will see the white plastic cup and the little hole it fits into on the gearlever linkage.

There is a plate at one ene there is a slighty bigger hole slide it off (remembering that the domed bit faces upwards) when refitting.

STEP 5

This is what you will see

As you will see from the next picture the fulcrum ball is totally knackered and the reason why my shogun gearchange is like a wooden spoon in bucket of baked beans
(Note the silver pin which should not be seen other than when you remove it to replace the ball)

I'll post up the missing pics of the 4 screws and also the pin removal and bush installation when I get a new one (very soon as it's driving me mad)  Evil or Very Mad

just remeber when refitting to a new white bush on the end of the stick it was about £4-5 from mitsubishi

This is what I’ve been looking for!
Any ideas where I can get this fulcrum from? I’ve created a post on the sport section and I’ll update with pics.
