hi all just about to sit licence so I'm getting myself one of these.
Baofeng UV-5R
as i am told it's a good place to start..
but the antenna has me a bit.. stummped just now.
with the roof rack a mag mount is a no but.. i'm tempted with either a mount on the spare tyre or bull bar.
what antenna would you recommend and.. what are the benefits / disadvantages of both mount types?
thanks.. |

what antenna do you recommend?
I have a Baofeng hand held..
and want a half descent antenna for the truck.
I have bought a 30cm one that's supposed to be very good.. but its c**p.
I have a gutter type mount on either side of my roof rack
one side has a cb antenna with a splitter that allows my stereo to use the same antenna.
any ideas? |

Think benefits more forward than back but its not like you will be talking to peeps 20 mile away if its for laning.
Few have on front,ok if a stumpy one,a springer would do my head in as would distract me.........personal thing maybe
Depends on budget too
Some good info here

Have a look in advice etc, might be easier to find one that suits your needs |

agree
i have the Nagoya 2m/70 cm on my paj...very good because of the price/quality, had the tilting option, so you can put it down when going into the garage/under the trees
it's not very elastic, like the cb ones so when you put it in a tree, it will have a little "form memory" ...but a very good antenna for the power of the baofeng |
