Whats the score with running our Pajeros on Vegetable oil?
In this time of fuel protests and threatened blockades?
I would rather go to Tescos for 31p/litre than Shell garage for 100p/litre

I remember when this was popular a few years ago! Totally illegal of course Twisted Evil

Apparently all you need is the right amount of ethanol mixed in to get the combustion level up and hey ho you're away!!

From memory though, your exhaust will smell like a chip shop.

I wouldnae bother

I've been searching the web for the mixture and I found a number of interesint links. Try through Google with 'running your car on vegetable oil'. Honestly it does bring up some results, mainly US based but same applies.

This is a link which is more appropriate to the UK but it doesn't really tell you the mixture you need to use and infact most of what I read suggests that as long as the temperature is up to 160 degrees it is hunky dory so maybe doesn't require the extra octane!!?

http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=104&i=6545

So, order a kit from the US, apply to be a fuel producer in the UK and Robert is your mother's brother! Laughing

It's not the extra octane it need. Neat vegOil can be too thick, so the white spirit thins it a bit.

Do a search on here & you'll find a fair bit of info, however I don't think many Paj owners have actually done it (yet).

The only reason to add something like ethanol, or methanol, or white spirits is to reduce the viscosity of the veg oil. neat veg oil will combust just as well as diesel but in cold weather it becomes too thick, can potentially damage the fuel pump (depending on type of pump) and can gum up the injectors.
Best bet is to read up on some of the posts here by searching the archive and also doing some web searching as there are loads of people doing this.
I've happily run 80% veg oil to 20% in the past and known others who run 100% veg oil. Some do 50/50.
So long as you fill in the relevant Customs and Excise form, declare your usage and pay 28p/litre tax it's all above board and legal.

and the sound of a wailing siren. Just then, a stinger was thrown into the road in front of Klunkers. After slowing to a halt, Klunkers was dragged kicking and screaming (and smelling like a chippy) from his Pajero by a man in a fluorescent yellow jacket which bore the words HM Customs and Excise across the back of it. As Klunkers was forced to the ground and handcuffed, a dipstick was swiftly inserted into his Paj and slowly withdrawn by another man, also wearing a fluorescent yellow HMC&E jacket, who proudly proclaimed "We've got him, the fuel tax evading little scrote". Before Klunkers had a chance to realise what was going on, the tow truck had been summoned and his precious Paj was being bagged up and impounded as evidence. Poor Klunkers had unwittingly become another victim of the government's exploitation of the motorist.......

lol...but again how very true. The RFTU (road fuel unit testing boys) will seize you Paj if you are subject to a roadside dip test.

What if you had been stranded by fuel protestors and you were an essential worker and had to make it back and the only shops open were Band Q and Tesco?
