Hi,

I have spent ages searching but cannot find what I need.

I need to replace the fanbelt but could do with a walkthrough/guide as to how to do this.

Does anyone have one or know where its located on here?

Thanks

Neil

It's the same as a 2.8!
Loosen alternator remove belts they do fit over the fan, top fan shroud off for access along with air intake pipe. Maybe do aircon belt at same time it just needs the tensioner released.  1 belt for aircon 2 for alternator.

Thats why you need to remove the top fan shroud. And air intake pipe first. Then release the two bolts on the tensioner for the alternator and the bottom pivot bolt which needs a 17 mm ring spanner. The alt then swings towards the engine allowing the belts to come off.
Don't know of any pictures on here.

OK, I finally managed to get it done.  Took me 2.5 hours though of trying figure it out, dropping spanners and getting my big gorilla arms lacerated on the fan.  I actually found some pics from the Pajero Forum for NSW in Australia............in the interest of anyone else that might be considering it the original info is here but you will need to register to see the pics.  I dont have enough of a post count to put them up on here.

http://www2.pajeroclub.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=15525&highlight=3.2+belt+alternator

Lossen the 12mm locking bolt at the front of the alternator, slacken the adjusting bolt below the radiator hose then pull the alternator up and it should swing towards the engine giving you space to remove the belts and to fit the new ons.
To remove the A/C belt lossen the bolt in the front of the ider pulley, slacken the adjusting bolt behind the pulley below the power steering pump. Remove belts and fit new ones tension the belts and tighten everyting up.

Don't overtighten the belts! Biggest cause of knackered water pumps. You want them as loose as possible without slipping.

I take the fan off. Very easy to do,four nuts, use an open ended spanner (16mm i think) on the cross shaped mount to rotate the fan. Only ever turn it clockwise NEVER anticlock. Then take the airbox out and you have plenty of room.

On a 3.2 DiD...... access to working on the engine is easy....... remove the air pipe that goes to the airbox (2 bolts and a small pipe), remove the top part of the surround at the back of the rad where the fan is (plastic clips hold it in place), finally remove the fan (4 bolts) and you have loads of space to do what you need.

As for adjusting fan belts/AC belts etc....... make sure that you unlock the locking bolts before re-tensioning with the adjusting bolts, or you will knacker the threads Wink

Didn't even think about taking the fan off to be honest!

What is the correct amount of play to have in the belts?

To measure belt tension you need a special tool, people will say 1/2 inch etc but its a load of rubbish. An overtight belt will deflect an inch or more if you press hard enough so it's very subjective hense the need for the tool. As I said before it wants to be as loose as possible without slipping. Sorry, but I can't be more precise.

Heed Assasin's warning!! Too tight and the waterpump bearing will be knackered in NO TIME!! Do it bit by bit just enough to stop the screech when starting up much more than that and the waterpump bearing will be overloaded.

Undo the bolt in the center of the pulley then slacken the belt using the adjuster bolt mounted above
