Would like some help / advice please

I bought my Evo a short while ago and a couple of weeks ago I steam cleaned the entire chassis before driving it to my local paint shop for a small repair

Going through the posts on here I read that the diff has a breather into the chassis rail and an owner posted on here that he filled his rear LSD with water from steam cleaning !!

This has got the alarm bells ringing as I may have done the same and I have driven a few miles like this !

Firstly I don't have it back from the paint shop yet so cant check it till next week

Does anyone know if the breather has a check valve to stop water entering the diff ? If water got in could it do any damage ? I have driven about 10 miles and obviously am now looking to drain off the diff at the earliest opportunity as a matter of precaution

Would I need to flush the diff and how ?
What oil do I need ? My owners manual says sae90 and 3.2 litres.
Any recommendations for make ?
Does it need to be special LSD oil ?

Thanks
Nick

Hi Nick, although i would say unlikely it would have got in unless its had nozzle stuck in chassis for a prolonged period it wont have done damage in 10 miles, diffs are tough,As you are changing anyway edging on precaution just check for any foam when drained.Just make sure you undo the top up 1st in case the drain is seized(left stranded then with an empty diff).

Seems a few on the market,no doubt better now than 10+ years ago when manual was made for the truck, look on opie oils.

75/90 seems a popular choice,example here

Its a hypoid and suitable for performance limited slip diffs so 280+bhp qualifies for that.
Brand wise go off specs, fuchs is a good brand.

Little research shows 75/90 has been used for many thousands of miles issue free Very Happy
or stick with manuals sae90
