Hi Guys

2.8td 1996 lwb

No hot air was blowing from heater only warm, flushed etc,
investigated further took glove box out and found that the cable for the center lever controlling
warm air or cold from outside was not closing or opening flap. The flap I closed manually and got hot air Very Happy

The problem is that the outer sheathing on the cable is not secured by anything so on moving lever the outer moves/ so its doing nowt.
Under the dash the cable runs through a sort of clip (like an open clothes peg ) can't see how it could grip it though.
Took the 3 clocks out thinking I could gain access downwards. but no.

How do I get to back of the centre heater vents to locate how to fix cable.
Cheers
Jim

if you mean the centre switch abouve the heater

controls there should be a plastic tag the clip goes onto

mine had snapped off so its a fiddle but you can

drill a hole in whats left of the plastic i think i used

a 4mm drill and was able to get a cable tie through

and around the cable job done  Wink

Thanks for replying fest

It is the centre lever one side blue one side black situated between the top air vents.
Is there any way to get behind to see what I am doing?
Cheers

its a stereo and surround and heater controls out job to

give enough access to drill an cable tie it ... the top vents as

far as i know were installed before the dash was put in ..

with the aid of a small mirror you can see the fixings

that hold them in but for the life of me i cant see how

you would get to them unless the dash was out  Confused

Many thanks for your help, I'll give it a try when I have a spare afternoon.
Just happy for now that the heater is working, after 2 very rigorous flushings making no difference.

If I remember right then you can take off the compass pod and then the steel plate under it and it gives you a bit of access to the top of that area - it's a long time since I was in there though. And as said before - taking the radio out helps to get to the bottom of it.
