Hi guys, I've got a '92 NH lwb pajero that I've owned for 12 years and is still in standard condition complete with soft worn out rear coil springs that I will be replacing very soon. Recently the old paj has been a challenge to keep in a straight line on our bumpy roads and after inspecting the rear end I find the diff has moved 20 mm to the left side of the vehicle.
I cant see any obvious damage such as bent or cracked control arm mounting brackets. Has anyone got any ideas as to what it might be? She has spent most of her life on the road, the only time it goes off road is on the beach. Any help would be greatly appreciated |

you should have a panhard rod this is a steel bar that fixes to the axle at one end and the other end fixes to the chassis,on the mark 2 if you look at the rear axle from the rear of the car the bar fixes onto the chassis on the right side as you look and onto the rear axle at the left side |

That would be the first place to look. Pull and push at the lateral rod connection ends, check the bolts haven't been loose for ages and slotted the holes, or the body bracket rotted, and the rubber bushes too.
If the large rubber bushes on the trailing arms are badly worn at the body or axle enf, the axle will move around as these arms anchor the axle to the body. |

Another thought. If your "soft worn out" coil springs are allowing the chassis to hang low towards the axle, then this fixed length rod will push the axle out towards the passenger side. |
