Clean the breather in the cam box, if not breathing could blow oil past seals in turbo, could be a worn turbo to. |

Had similar on a twin cam Alfa in the 80's was the valve stem seals,
It could be a number of things. I would have a look at the turbo when cold and see if any oil is sitting in it. |

It's probably going to be Wed/Thurs next week before I can have a good look around as i've only just got in and it's too hot now.
Tomorrow is my first day back at work (6am-6pm) so won't have time to look until my 2 days off.
Keep posting your ideas folks and i'll check them all on my days off |

Ive had similar on a transit.
was the fuel pump worn up.
at higher revs it was like fluffy on power.
sorry hard to describe, sort of like timing was out.
Valve stems?
Ive seen plenty of cars with valve stems doing nothing, they popped off guide.
I find on diesel's you wont know.
its only on petrol like start up or a gear change.
this just what ive seen.
not saying it is not your problem.
But oil, are you towing as this is normal to use oil, the heavier the item you tow the more oil as fuel wash is greater.
Also if not enough fuel in cylinders then engine will pull oil from where ever it can get it from. |

If intake air is restricted by a dirty air filter, then power will be limited, and more than usual oil will be drawn into the cylinders, burned and exhausted.
Likewise, if the fuel filter is partially clogged, speed will be restricted and start up lumpy.
If you haven't replaced these filters already, then eliminate these areas first and let's move on from there. |

Ok so I took a few things apart today as i'm off work, i know I said no visible leaks in my original post because there was no sign of anything dripping onto the floow all the oil around the rocker cover seems to be dryish and not to the extent I could lose almost all of my engine oil in a month.
Took these pipes off and there was just a thin film of oil inside them.
Closer view.
Again appeared to be a thin film of oil inside each end of these pipes.
Oil around here seems too dry to be a contribution to the last months oil loss.
Think it might benefit from a new rocker cover gasket.
Think it might benefit from a new rocker cover gasket.
Air filter didn't look too dirty (was still pink and new in October last year) but there was a very thin film of oil at the very back of the filter box.
All of the above photos still don't seem to show where the quantity of oil I lost in the last month is going or explain my blue smoke on startup or lack of power once I reach 80mph. |

Blue smoke does seem to suggest that the oil is burning, not leaking.
I have a thin film of oil in all those pipes but my oil level doesn't go down very much - just a tiny top up every few weeks.
If oil is being burned then maybe valve stem oil seals as said before. |

The suggestion of heater plugs did make me laugh
Blue smoke is burning oil which explains your lack of oil in the sump and you really should check levels weekly as a lot can go wrong in a month, a few more miles and you may have run out completely
Your cam cover gasket actually looks fine to me, on the whole it's all pretty dry.
Just for now plug the hole in the large air pipe that the breather pipe runs into and fit a longer bit of hose onto cam cover into an old coke bottle stashed under the bonnet somewhere, push pipe just into bottle leaving an air gap for gasses to escape and run for a few days to see how it goes. If bottle fills with oil but exhaust smoke stops you need to clean the breather filter built into the inside of the cam cover and see if it helps. |

Mark had to laugh at check oil weekly.
I checked my paj oil yesterday as put screen wash in.
It was low, last time I looked was months ago when I changed it.
Lastnight I had to look at a l200, its leaking oil from all joins on the turbo pipes, fitted his engine 18 months ago, looked at oil, none not a drop on the stick.
I said have you added any oil, no I never check, havent checked nothing since you did engine.
even though its leaking yet still no check.
then this guy wonders why it goes wrong. |

I too see nothing amiss on your pics. Have you replaced the fuel filter as suggested ? Misfiring and limited top end does result in these problems.
To confirm the air filter is not affecting start up, remove the filter, ensure there is no dust or rubbish in the filter box, and start the engine. Is there any improvement ? |
