Heya guys, just wanted to ask a quick question to those in the know... as well as make a post for the first time in the mods section.

oh btw ! not enough Posting of awesomeness ! i mean i know there good from the factory but cmon people you gotta be doing something to the beast ?.. its an evolution  Razz

Im looking at getting some new shoes/rims for the evo.

I have done my research on here but havent found out enough to convince me to spend my hard earn dollars just yet until i delve a little deeper Razz

Looking at some new wheels :

They come in 2 sizes 16 x 8  (0 offset) and 16 x 8 (-20 Offset).

Everything i have read so far has only talked about positive Offset and i cant really get my head round it specially when im talking about negative offset on a positive offset car. ( I Think)

Which Rim in theory would give the most dish given the correct tyre choice?

And is it possible neither offset will work on the EvopaJ ?

-20mm offset would give you the deepest dish as the mating flange on the wheel is -20mm further backwards  from the wheels centre line
0mm offset the mating flange would be central in the wheel
positive offset means the mating flange is coming out towards the front of the wheel

by mating flange i mean the part of the wheel that joins to the hub

so neg offset will pull the rim away from the car (and give you the dish)
positive off set will push it in and the spokes would look flat to the wheel edge

dont dick to much with the offsets, it can cause all manner of poo handling and huge stress on the wheel bearings

In Australia there really isn't many people who know much about the evo, (being i think 5-7 in the whole country) so this forums is my only real source of knowledge. Any and all comments and feedback provided are hugely grateful Razz

Have you sold your old girl yet ?

Appreciate the heads up on the handling or lack of.. by changing offsets too btw:)

I always think - Mitsubishi spent millions on these things making them the ultimate machine to win with, then we come along and adjust something...

lol i know that everythings tweekable and ive been in motorsport long enough to know but  always i keep
that thought in my head

Im ordering a set of wheels for it, Ill post the details

and i think we have decided to keep it as i just can not find a suitable replacement so its going to have a bloody good top to bottom going over next month

AND - i think ive finally located a batch of factory workshop manuals for the Evo - All in japanese but im told everythings there - keep fingers crossed

Hey Pad, i'm stoked to see your keeping the ol girl, You and me well keep the community on their toes Razz

I couldn't agree with you more on the Mitsubishi spending millions why change it, hence i don't think ill be able to achieve the look i want really.

just stuck my head under the car and for those that are searching OFFSET for the Standard Pajero Evolution 6 Spoke Alloys are

J16 X 7JJ +46 offset
That is 16 Inch Rim
8 Inch Wide Tyre
+ 46 Offset meaning the hub is already very close to the outside of the guard. From What you have told me Pad anything less than that will push it further past the guard.

I think +30 would have to be the lowest you'd want.

Now to work out if the width of Rim Effects the offset ?

The way i work it out is like this, and Pad i'm probably so wrong its not funny but meh !
IE If you have 16 x 7" rim vs a 16 x 8" rim there is approx 25 mm more rim width (7" vs 8") - With this logic would that mean the rim at (lets say +46 offset) would stick out 12.5 mm further (half the 25 mm is on each side of the rim). meaning an 8 inch rim to fit the same would literally need +58 Offset.. hmm that doesn't sound right  Confused

I spose what i'm getting at is if you went an even wider rim you would need to push the offset even higher if i understand it correctly ?

Its funny you mentioned the Japanese Manuals, i'm waiting on mine to come from Japan as well. I don't think ill be able to read much, but as my mum says i have always been good with pictures? (whatever the hell that means Smile

Maybe i can bribe my next door neighbor a lovely Japanese couple with a night of Saki and Karaoke.  So he can decipher the manuals for me.

I think though the manuals i got are bits of manuals, addendum and such, i couldn't see how thick they were either. Couple hundred quid later I hope they offer some information.

Going against what ive just said ive today ordered a set of Rota Grid 16 x 8 x et5 - which is not really correct on the offset , they will stick out an extra 40mm but because there wider will only be 25 mm further outwards on the inside of the wheel which aint worth bothering about

Well it was a swap for some stuff so as we say here in the UK - Beggers cant be choosers

have a look , they are a nice wheel (the flat spoke ones)

Yeah in the beginning Rota's name wasn't the best but over the years they seem to have gotten better and better and found you can find there wheels on some big names, World Time Attack cars, 1200 HP drag evo's so yeah good buy Razz  

What color did you end up going with ?

Oh and I cannot believe you got +5 offset, please tell me how they go and take some photos Razz

oh one last thing, the ol girl is getting some new rubber tomorrow Hankook Muddies, ill be sure to take some after shots Razz

where did you find them?
also i bought some "fake" te37x off ebay from malasia

700 dielivered but they sent the wrong offest. 16x8.5 -35. stuck out the guards buy like 65mm....

more suited to a patrol or hilux. so they are sittin gin my spare room gathering dust.
