Hello all. Been a browser on here for some years but only now have a question to ask anyone in the know. I have bought a Shogun sport animal 3.0 V6 as a project.Mint inside and very good body work, but high mileage and a loud tapping up to 2000 revs from the left hand bank has sent me down the route of stripping off the heads, and removing the block from the car. Lots of bits all labelled up etc., but looking at the bores they look immaculate, with the honing marks still on show, and  absolutely no ridge/wear mark where the top ring reaches before changing direction on the bore. I need a recommended engine re-conditioner or engineer in the Bucks,Beds,Herts area, who can take it down further, micro the journals and advise from there. i.e. regrind crank, new shells ( standard or overs,) etc.etc. Am willing to have them rebuild back up to short block status, and bring it back home to continue the rebuild.

Dropped off the short block in Watford for assessment on Monday, 11/8/14. They said 2 weeks minimum to look at it. They will measure bores, journals etc and report back.
Seems proficient and have all the necessary tooling looking around their w/shop. Now wait and see. Heads back from Corry cylinder heads, Sonic cleaned, new stem seals, lapped valves, decoked and 2 thou skim. £270 plus the governments bit for 6 hours benchwork,sonic bath and new seals These guys I can and will recommend for all cylinder head work.
Nothing too much trouble and always time to talk about the job in hand. I'm now looking for a recommended head gasket type and make/supplier. Its taken a while for me to work
out all the variants of the 6g7 engines, now know i have a 6g72 sohc 24 valve, 3litre V6, putting out 130 hp standard. My daily drive is a series 3 3.2 DiD shogun, so these forums are a godsend. Thanks all so far.

Hi, thanks for your interest, Cramers said the big end journals were remarkably unworn, and just a set of standard shells will bring
it back to good as new, however the rear main was showing a score mark from corrosion ie standing condensation or the like and we have decided to regrind the four mains down ten thou over/under to see of the score will dissapear. If still evident, will take to 20 thou, and all should be good. Set of new rings and the rebuild will begin in ernest. Bores were showing 2 to 3 thou wear, nothing in the scheme of things, and a new ring set will halve that problem. Have sourced a new oil pump from California, at reasonable price (Mitzy quote 295.00) and waiting for delivery now. Will take new pump to Cramers when pump to hand. Pics of the rest of the car will be posted this week, now camera is up an running.Might have the box out while access is great with no block in the way.
My Bro-in-law works for STA in Aylesbury, auto box specialists, so might get it to them for a bench inspection. They have a 30 grand auto-box valve block testing machine, and a bench service wont do any harm. Much more to come. Thanks again. Neil

We went through Wendover yesterday afternoon on our way to Coombe Hill for a dog walk. I guess that's what triggered my curiousity as to your progress.
Useful having a brother-in-law at a firm of gearbox specialists.  Smile

Yes, know Coombe Hill very well, we walk our dogs up there too. If we're feeling very energetic we can get there from the house.
Handy to have someone in the know when it comes to auto-boxes, although I've never had one break on me. Have always favoured manual cars for towing caravan or trailer.Used to have an old style Nissan Patrol, that I towed stuff all over Europe with, but as I say, always manual. Drove heavy lorries for 30+ years so autos not my fave. Having said that, the Shoggy sport is auto, and before we stripped it, it went very well, albiet with a fierce top end rattle. Will see what its like when rebuilt. Now some pics, wants a good clean but all there and very solid.Took off the chrome side tubes to get to the chassis better. Am buzzing off the scale with a power file and treating the rails to anti-corrosion coating. Waiting for the pump through customs now.

Best/easiest way of posting photos is via a Photobucket account.  There's a guide somewhere on this forum, but I can't locate it right now.

Anyway 'all' you need to do is:
1. Open a free Photobucket account at www.photobucket.com
2. Drag and drop photos to upload them to Photobucket
3. Select each photo and click the IMG address on the right hand side. This will copy the link to your clipboard
4. Paste the link into a message to this forum. Click 'Preview' on your post just to make sure you're posting what you intended.

I've found that I can't drag and drop directly from my phone memory card in Windows Explorer. I need to copy/paste to another folder first.

You need a certain minimum number of posts (10, I think) before you can include photos in your posts.

Looks good! Well worth the effort. The interior is in great condition. I'm a bit jealous of that, because mine's got rather nasty cloth seats and door trims.

Thanks for your encouraging words, sometimes I have to think hard to justify my actions, especially where budgeting a project is concerned.(Retired and all that!!) The oil pump arrived today and went straight to cramers, where they can now crack on with the bottom end rebuild. Came from csn motors in California, was very reasonable price and a prefect fit to the crank.
Uploading the pictures was a bit of a faff, but all ok eventually. The shot of the body up on axle stands was a bit dissapoiting, but I said it needed a damn good clean/polish. More next week, when I hope to have the block/bottom end back. Thanks again.
