Hey guys,
Hopefully I'm posting this in the right section.
Anyways,I've found a local Pajero. 1993 Super Exceed 2.8 TD. 93,000KM. Winter weather package/bull bar/side steps/factory delivery books & service records. This vehicle was imported into Canada from a local dealer who specializes in JDM.
I plan on getting a 4x4 for the winter driving here in Alberta. My 98 R/T Dakota (360cui) doesn't fare too well in the winter. Plus, I plan on parking it over the winter to build up my 408 Turbo setup.
My question to you guys is: How reliable are these vehicles? What are the service costs like? How do they handle in the *beep* winter weather? I've seen some people say that with regular service, these diesel engines can reach 600,000km.
I've worked on vehicles a fair amount and know my way around. Only problem being is that I know my Dodge vehicles (gas) and know next to nothing about diesel.
Cheers,
Geoff |

hi pcg
they are mechanically pretty sound if serviced correctly and not left to rot
the main issues on this site are due to years of neglect or running with non standard fuels ( veg oil etc ) and cooling issues due to bunged up radiators / caps
as you have long winters in ca you should try to grease/ wax all the arches and frame / underbody to make it last
there are lists on the site of what to check before buying, for winter especially the pre heaters !!
your ca kinsfolk have written on how to soup up the pump output to make them keep up in traffic

Radiators clogged up cause overheating and cylinder head problems.
Try a good flush through before refilling with obviously for your location, a good antifreeze.
The cam chain can suffer if the vehicle has not had regular oil changes. If you suspect that it might not have been subject to regular oil changes, it might be worthwhile renewing the chain, tensioners and guides, not too big a job.
Solid cars when looked after but they can kick you in the teeth if they are not looked after |

Hi, as has already been said, they have their little quirks and problems, but very few. If serviced well and looked after they are a good and relaible truck. Many 2.8TD's are well over 15 years old and running well even today. Servicing costs at a Mitzy dealership are prohibitive but find a good diesel indy with Pajero know how and it should save 50% over the main dealer costs. Good luck with your new purchase and if you look after it, it will look after you. |
