Hopefully he will be here Thursday.
TBH I don't think that I would trust anybody else to do it.
I'm going to get the bacon for the bacon butties to keep him well-fed,
And I've bought a gazebo to keep him dry if the rain comes.
I got the winch really cheap off the bay. It's only a CTA 12000 lb one so not the best make but it was on buy it now for £50 as spares or repair. All it needed was a new radio remote unit that cost a tenner.
I did spend quite a bit on some 11mm plasma rope though - the steel ones scare me! |

I spent about that on the plasma - much easier to handle and safer if it snaps so I've been told.
I always had boring cars - except for a kit car I built about 20 years ago. It weighed less than a mini and had a 2 litre Cortina engine with two twin choke Webers. Used the Cortina gearbox but an escort Mk1 rear axle so it was really undergeared. I lost count of the number of times it did an 180o spin! The exhaust was home made from a scaffold pole because it was only an inch off the ground and it needed to be strong enough for speed bumps - no silencers so it was a bit loud!
Then I rebuilt a Series 3 Landy and got rid quickly because it was horrible!
Then it was a Pinin - then a Facelift Shogun that burnt out all it's wiring and now this one which I really like.
I'm much better with bikes - at one time I had three - 1000cc Suzuki - 500cc Honda and a 125 Suzuki trail bike. It's much easier to rebuild bikes.
Give it a couple of years and I bet you get another shogun - just as a toy! |

I wont rule anything out Pete, after the decision i have made recently how could i..............
Plasma safer yes when snaps, but imo not as strong long term,pros/cons............thats why cranes, winches on recoveries are all wire.
Again its an endless discussion, depending on use and terrain would also determine the choice(rocky would soon shorten plasma life).
Maybe some plasma cars instead of cable cars my patent
Will see what happens if all goes to plan(yeh right) i will have a toy(ok another toy) too

That's a coincidence - I posted earlier in the week asking if anyone knew the depth of the double DIN slot. I want a better system in mine but I've heard that some are a bit deep and don't fit flush in the dash.
Nobody answered so I will take mine out and measure it - sometime! |

I'm looking at a Chinese special off eBay
HERE
Some people say they are rubbish but I've seen a couple that other people have fitted and they are fine.
Built in virtual 6 disc CD, DVD, Digital TV, Sat Nav, mobile internet, camera inputs. And you can fiddle with the operating system because it is only a mobile version of Windows. With a bit of luck I should be able to get it to display the readings from things like my voltmeter and ammeter etc.
The only thing wrong with them is the radio reception is not good - but that can be sorted with an amplifier. They also tend to break after three or so years but at £150 you can't expect too much in the way of quality. |

added to watched........................... only about 2000 pages now
Yes seen reviews, nipped halford before(wiper blades for the bosses and trade card saved me £5 ) looking at designs as i have to remove fascia and the one i was thinking(pioneer) would not fit due to side shapes...........(i always have a look when poss and and a good idea to test the UI on them).
I asked rach her opinion, cheaper brand with DVD etc etc or better brand and more basic but cd/usb etc, reply was "defo better brand, dont get any cheap C.....e stuff"(well its all made there anyway)
So jury out and not hit buy button yet,was almost imminent tbh.............so holding off,not like its a 10k spend, but all the same i do a little research 1st as like to get things as close to being right as i can,be it £20 or £200 ..........latter i spend a few more minutes researching
DVD i will get head pecked off kids, then could be fighting over what to watch, then i cant listen to my music which i like when driving............not that straight forward and no i cant be bothered just now for DVD head rests being honest, never did with shogy
Thats where i am right now |

Luckily when my kids were young they could only fight over which tape to listen to - even CDs hadn't been invented!
I'm usually the only one in my truck as it is mainly for work - much better than a van for me.
I've just had a reply from the suppliers and the depth is 160mm which is less than the Sony single DIN I've got in now.
I'l wait until Rick has been so I know how much cash I have left after I have paid him - I can only justify spending so much on toys for the truck but maintenance is the first priority
I noticed that Bravehrt on here - the bloke in Cyprus has a Kenwood double DIN unit in his truck - but they are £450 - can have three of the cheap Chinese ones for that money! |

Trouble is that £450 unit is worth £200 in a few month.......agree fully with your train of thought
Just took some pics and will update in this thread

The Subaru is a lovely car but I need something that I can fit 8 foot lengths of wood in - and the LWB is perfect for that.
If I ever stop working then there are just two cars I would consider - a 911 or a Mitsy GTO - both of which are expensive to run.
I nearly got a GTO about 10 years ago - saw it on a forecourt and stopped to have a look - it had a perfect body with no rust and a spotless interior. The problem was that the engine bay was empty! The engine had blown and had been taken out and I haven't got the space any more to do big jobs like that.
I suppose most GTOs are on their last legs now. |

Me too pete,i love GTOs ,rach had the baby FTO v6 2.0,nice motor, tip tronic but this happened to it
Had a drive of a mates GTO none turbo so 3.0 24v,4wd and steer, very nice motor, lots of room in back seats too which surprised me red as well
Yep love one, unfortunately i needed a bit newer and a little more friendly on parts/repairs come time.........which it always does
911 is my fav car, when i get chance i will get a pic of my mates in work,N reg last of the air cooled,35k he paid though so .............. stay away from the 996(need eng rebuild by Porsche at 6k hence 8-10k to buy.............there is a reason),997 better but 20k ish on for a good example............
from then they dont get better in reliability ,just faster and more expensive thats why that air cooled are the muts nuts to enthusiasts basically........getting a mint one, there may be 1 or 2 in UK right now for sale(dont know),none will be under 30k if good either way,by that i mean no stone chips and no re-sprays etc,all original and bullet proof Porsche enthusiasts are certainly super fastidious when it comes to their motors,by enthusiasts i mean like my mate (or ken) and not me buying one |

Yep - I would only want an air cooled one but they are getting old now.
I always intended putting that engine into a Beetle but after driving a Beetle I decided I didn't like them!
Rach does seem to have bad luck with front wings! |
