Simple enough job really. Remove the fan cowl and fan and I think you can do it without removing the rad.

Cheers tom   it comes with new seal , would you also use gasket seal as a precaution? Also is there any torque settings for pump bolts?

The 4M40 manual I have got doesn't give any torque settings for the pump bolts - I just tightened them up with a shortish spanner.

The rubber seal will keep falling out of the groove when you try fitting the new pump into place - after five attempts I held it in the groove with some non-setting Red Hermetite sealant.

That's fairly much it, I use blue hermatite on the rubber seal keeps it in place and helps the seal. Just a thin smear is needed.

I took the fan cowl off mine - I couldn't see me getting the job done with it in place.

1-drain rad
2-remove metal bash plate so you can get at oil filter
3-drain coolant from block (long nut next to oil filter, takes 12mm socket)
4 remove top rad hose
5 remove fan cowling
6 remove fan
7 I remove rad to improve access but you dont have to
8 slacken fan belts
9 remove water pump
10 install new pump,tighten bolts to 24NM
11 remove glaze from alternator.fan and crank pulleys with fine emery cloth
12 fit belts, as loose as possible, just tight enough that they dont slip. Too tight and your new pump wont last long

Note-never allow the crank pulley to rotate anticlockwise ie when rotating fan as it can damage the chain tensioner Shocked

Do I split the belt pulley from the water pump whilst in situ , or remove fan first , then pump , then split pulley from pump once it has been removed

I removed the fan and then took the pump off and removed the pulley with it on the bench.

It saves having your head inside the engine bay for yet another four bolts.
