Not sure if this is an electrical issue or not but here goes....

Pajero been stood up for a while and no longer fires up after a jump start.

Treated her to a new battery. Varta 250H

After fitting all lights on..fog etc. indicators on (not flashing but just on), washer jet motor on continious.

As i tried to turn over ( no joy) the screen washer and rear washer started aswell and all lights on dash come on.

Remote locking no longer works. The digital display and radio not working.

Best way to describe is Herbie gone bannanas. Confused

Any ideas please

How long has it been left standing?

I bought a "barn find" Mini many years ago - mice had destroyed quite a bit of the wiring.

It's a 2006 3.2 diesel.

Not been driven properly  for several months but have started it up every few weeks and driven round block. Not had any issues.

Went to jump it and battery not playing ball so bought nice new one today. Now have a truck lit up like a Christmas tree and wanting to spray screen wash everywhere. Although screen wash run out and just  making a real racket from motor.

There is a chance but would have thought things wouldn't work rather than every thing work at once. Will send our cat in to have a look.

It seems like fitting the new battery has caused it - so start from basics.

1. Have you got a voltmeter? Connect it across the battery when it is connected to the battery leads - is it showing about 12V

2. Connecting the battery may have disturbed the earth connection - check the negative battery cable where it bolts to the body.
It may be worth unbolting it from the body and cleaning up the lead and the metal of the body.

A bad earth can cause all sorts of odd faullts.

Not got a voltmeter but will check the earth in daylight tomorrow. That is a great call. Cheers

Is your vehicle an import? Are you sure that you haven't put in a standard battery where a Japanese-type one is required? Or vice versa? The polarity is reversed on some (if not all) Japanese batteries. Check against the battery that you removed.

Same make battery but old one was i think 740 new one is 820 ? but checked at motor factor in their book that it was the right type. This truck is baged as a Pajero but was a UK import from new came via Dubai.

Would there be any difference in a Shogun battery.

Just because the battery is the same make, it doesn't mean it has the same polarity. Bosch, for example, do both types. So I would physically check the new battery vs the old one, and make sure the negative terminal on the battery goes to earth as it should.

I very nearly made this mistake myself a couple of years ago. Luckily I spotted the problem before I actually fitted the new batteries.

I don't know about Shogun batteries or whether they are fitted with standard or Japanese polarity batteries.

And to make it more complicated - my rear battery terminals are the opposite to the ones on my front battery.

Reckon a previous owner or mechanic got the wrong battery and changed the leads to suit? Both batteries on my Challenger are identical.

That really is bizarre. Why on earth (like the pun?  Laughing ) would any manufacturer choose to fit two different polarity batteries?

Answers on a postcard, please......
