Milners have four different kits of belts HERE - scroll down the page a bit.

I think your problem is that Mitsy seemed to have changed them in mid 1993 so yours maybe was made when they were doing the change.

Have a look at THIS

The model year is on the VIN plate - number 9 in the table.

I've phoned Milners with questions in the past and they have always been very helpful

Milners are asking me what the part number is for the belt lol why i would know the part number i dont know, even the chassis number does not help them sort the correct belt so im told, anyways i have told them to send me the 17x1085 belt hopefully that will sort it out.
So this will be set number 5 i think it is  Rolling Eyes

There is quite a few posts of people having similar problems with the 2.5 - luckily the 2.8 doesn't have as many choices.

Yes, there is so little take up on the water pump/alternator belt that even the correct belt number can be too short or too long, depending on the manufacturer.

Once you have the correct belt, then note the number and make and buy only this make in future.

My '88 has a Ram/Goodyear 17 x 1125 belt.

Belt i have just fitted but is also at the end of the adjusting travel so too long is a 17x1095 so i have got a 17x1080 coming from milners so hopefully with everything crossed  Rolling Eyes it will fit and i will be able to get some proper tension on the belt  Very Happy
