I know lots of other people have had more / worse problems with their cars, but I'm not a patient man.

I discovered today that I have a P0161 "O2 sensor heater circuit bank 2 sensor 2" fault. I would expect this to bring on the EML - except my EML never comes on, not even at startup.  Conclusion: a previous owner has determined the fault code, discovered that the sensor is either £190.63 or £305.50 (part only, but my main dealer can't tell me which one it is), and decided to remove the EML bulb prior to selling on.  Yes, it's my fault for not checking the EML before buying, but it doesn't make it any less wrong to do this to the next buyer.  I've already sunk money into it for a new cam belt kit, two tyres, water pump and front ARBs.  I'm now wondering whether to scrap it rather than throw more money at it (the problem with it not changing into top gear is still not resolved either). I haven't even done a thorough check underneath yet, but I'm anticipating terminal rust if the other problems are anything to go by.
