I have a lazy sometimes mirror when folding in and out, is there a fix for this ?
Also has anybody wired the auto fold system to work with the cobra alarm system?
Cheers Dave

The lazy mirror probably needs the motor / gears lubricating - try spraying it with silicon oil (much better than WD40)

There have been a few people wanting to connect the mirrors to an alarm / central locking but I have never seen anyone saying they had managed it.

The folding requires a momentary pulse on one of two wires (on the MkII) - which is not easy to do by just doing wiring mods, it will need some electronics.

It is something I was intending having a go at when time permits.

Unlike the mk4 where mirror fold and raise window are available for a short time after key off, the mk3 needs key on to access those functions.  It could be done but it is not a simple job.

There is an easier way than that - trouble is that my circuit diagram doesn't show the folding bits of the mirrors, only the adjusting controls.

There are two wires to the central locking - one is live to lock and the other is live to unlock so it is an idea.

Trouble is finding what colour wires fold the mirrors.

MkII central locking diagram here

I'm just in the habit of folding them in with the switch just before I turn off the ignition.

Need to find which wires on the back of the switch do the folding / unfolding.

Also need to find a constant live on the mirrors. there must be one as if I fold mine in they continue folding if I switch off the ignition before they have finished.

Me too pete , I just thought it would be nice to get out of my car , hit the alarm button (cobra) car sets and folds mirrors in, I am lost with car electrics , but pointed in the right direction could have spliced a few wires together

But you wouldn't always want to, on the mk4s you press the lock button 3 times if you want them folded.

I've done 3 now. All are still working. Just don't lock then unlock too quickly. I did a how to here http://www.pocuk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=123416&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30 I can't really remember much more than that as it was a while ago that I did it. After having a think about it I don't think there would be a simpler way of doing it. One of my favourite mods. Any questions give me a shout
