MD176361        Inlet manifold absolute pressure (boost filter)

ME202119         Map sensor

MD176361 is connected to ME202119 via a vacuum pipe just so you know

Would suggest replacing both if your going down this route

Thanks

Jeff

A vehicle's manifold pressure sensor, or manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP), is part of an engine's electronic control system. It's usually found in vehicles that use fuel injection. The manifold pressure sensor's function is to provide constant and instantaneous manifold pressure information to the car's computer, also known as the electronic control unit (ECU). The ECU uses the data to calculate density and determine the engine's air mass flow rate, which helps the computer determine the amount of fuel needed to create optimum combustion. When a vehicle has a faulty manifold air pressure sensor, many different engine problems can occur.

Symptoms of a Faulty Manifold Pressure Sensor
A faulty manifold pressure sensor has symptoms that closely resemble a vehicle with injector problems or low compression problems. Here are some of the most common symptoms associated with a faulty manifold pressure sensor:

A rich or lean fuel mixture. You may notice a gas smell after the engine has warmed up. The engine will knock or ping at times for no apparent reason
   Excessive fuel consumption
   A rough idle
Hesitation or slight jerking during acceleration, or when putting the vehicle into drive
The vehicle stalls or dies immediately after you try to give the engine gas to start the car moving

Remember

The one actually on the manifold is not the Map sensor its the Filter which feeds the map sensor via a braided vacuum hose. This is why id say replace both and the vacuum pipe  if youre thinking of trying this.

Thanks

Changed the MAP sensor and there has been some difference. First time out it ran perfectly now it has reverted to type but not as bad. Problem now is the engine light illuminates after 10 mins on the dashboard. Whats all that about?
Removing the hose from the manifold filter to the sensor seems to make no change in running. I am now going to try disconnecting the sensor and see if that makes a difference.
Question: Where is the ECU situated in the vehicle (SWB)?

Have you disconnected the batteries?

Was your Map sensors part number same as the one you took off?

ME202119 was the part number removed. MD343375 was the replacement part but the info on the sellers site was that they were the same part?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-Mitsubishi-Pajero-Shogun-L200-2-5-3-2-DI-D-2-8-MAP-Boost-Pressure-Sensor/262026172200?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

I didn't disconnect the battery, should I have done? If so should I repeat the fitting process?

Well Yes that part does cross reference ok

Yep disconnect both batteries and leave it for a few hours.

Reconnect  batteries and the pajero will run its default map whilst its gathering info from the sensors. Can take up to 40 key starts to then use the information learnt from sensors.

Id even go as far as to relearn it too and see how you go.

OK, I have disconnected both batteries and left the disconnected for a couple of hours. I have now reconnected both batteries and have performed the relearn process.
Back from a short run and the engine is performing as it should however the engine light has once again come on. Tomorrow I shall start up and do the process once again and see how the engine behalves. Fingers crossed. The warning light is slightly worrying though.

I would now question that cross reference part causing this if you haven’t changed anything else ? I would contact the supplier to 100% confirm it’s compatible.

I have sent the seller an email to that effect.
I was thinking of refitting the old part after the light has come on to see if it goes out?
