Could anyone please let me have instructions for wiring in my towbar. I have fitted the towbar ok and I have routed the cable to the cubby hole under the seat but I am now stuck and would appreciate a idiot proof cable colour guide to help me finish off.. Smile  Smile

HI, I DONT THINK THERE IS AN IDIOT PROOF GUIDE AS MY PAJ CABLES WERE ALL DIFFERENT TO THE HAYNES, BUT THEN THATS NOT A SHOCK! I USED A TEST LAMP AND TESTED EVERY WIRE TILL I FOUND THE RIGHT ONE! YOU COULD REMOVE THE REAR LAMP ASSEMBLIES ,THEY COME OFF QUITE EASY TO CHANGE BULBS, THEN YOU COULD WORK OUT YOUR OWN COLOURS BY LOOKING AT THE LAMPS, GOOD LUCK, COLIN

Thanks for the advice Colin, I went in through the light fittings as you suggested. Lot easier than under the seat. Very Happy

If you want to wire the towbar up so that you will have no problems if you tow a different trailer the wiring should be:

Black 12N socket for raod lights

Pin 1 Yellow Cable Left hand indicator
Pin 2 Blue Cable Rear Fog light
Pin 3 White Earth (Common return)
Pin 4 Green Right hand indicator
Pin 5 Brown Right hand side/tail
Pin 6 Red Stop lamp
Pin 7 Black Left hand tail

When using the Grey 12S socket to a caravan Pins 2 and 6 must be controlled by an ignition controlled supply and wired as follows
Pin 1 Yellow Reversing lights
Pin 2 Blue Caravan Battery charging
Pin 3 White Earth
Pin 4 Green Interior lights
Pin 5 Brown Not used
Pin 6 Red Fridge
Pin 7 Black Earth for pin 6

Hope this helps

http://www.autoelectrics.net/towbar.html

This will help with wiring codes/colours etc, for bot plugs.

For the caravan charging one,, basically you will have to run a wire either from the alternator, or straight from the battery via a 10 amp fuse, in line, either run the cable, which should be heavy gauge, down from battery to the chassis, and along the chassis to the rear, or, through the vehicle and under carpets etc, to do this you will have to feed a wire through the rubber bung that sits behind the rear battery on Pajeros, which means removing the battery, you will where I mean when it is out.

i found out what it is
12N Socket with fog cut out (E2)

'N' Plastic Socket With Fog Cut Out
Same as standard 7 pin socket except it has an extra pin that when wired correctly cuts out the cars fog lights when towing. This prevent the driver from being dazzled through rear view mirror when towing a caravan.
