|
|
Hi
I'm in a bit of a fix, I have to pick up my boat tonight but have to reconnect the towing electrics after the tow bar got torn off and yanked cabling clean off.
I've got about 1.2m of cable attached to the towbar (now reattached) and have no idea where to look on the car for the other end?
Does it run along underneath or go up into the car and under the carper or what? |

Went ahead a got the tail light off. Found some of the wires.
This is what I have coming out of the tow electrics. Camera died before I could get a shot of the tail light. I don't have a white or blue cable behind the tail light.
Should I assume that they have been totally ripped out? i.e. they wouldn't join the loom connect elsewhere? |

Really you ought to get a proper towbar interface module. This includes relays to protect the car's wiring from a miswired trailer, or damage to the sockets. They come with wiring diagrams and all the bits you need to connect the sockets to the lights.
Alternatively, you could just connect the wires to the socket to the tail light wiring and hope for the best. Quite a lot of towbar electrics are wired directly with no ill effects, but having the peace of mind that you're not going to damage the vehicle wiring because you've driven into a deep puddle and shorted out the sockets.
For example, there are some on this website |

The White is the earth for the trailer buddy so would probably have been wired straight to the body of the truck and the blue is for fog lights so probably wouldn't have been wired at all. |

I have just installed a 7s socket (grey one) so i can power my trailer winch and also give me reverse lights on trailer.
Got the winch power working fine, just cannot get reverse lights to work.
I attached the yellow to the live side of loom for reverse light and the black to the other, i have the larger white wire direct to earth point.
When i select reverse i get only 3 to 4 volts at the socket, but the lights in paj cluster illuminate... the trailer one doesnt !!!
What is the issue.....any ideas please. |
