I never understood why the front of the chassis rails is open - they just scoop up the mud!

even worse if the mud is thick and trapped inside the rails as all the tube cross members run through the rail so you only have a 1/2mm gap top and bottom of the tube..when i welded up the rear rail for my mate i must have spent an hour scrapping mud out from the inside took ages as it was welded to the rail, ended up jet washing it out before welding the new steel in..probably why the rail rusted out Exclamation

And the mud in there will hold moisture next to the steel - so the rust will continue.

I did mine with ML four years ago - followed by cavity wax. Good job I covered my drive with a tarpaulin to catch all the drips!

I then did it again two years ago and again this summer - so hopefully that will stop any more internal rust.

My truck has never been offroad (unless it's Japanese owner took his new truck into mud). The owner before me only used it for towing his caravan in the summer - and I avoid mud completely. So mine was quite clean inside the chassis.

I think all the holes are to let stuff drain out of the chassis and to get some airflow in it to help dry it out.
