Hi All
I need to know something about Delica’s Ok I know this is not the correct forum, but this may be a one off question, unless I buy it, so because of that reason I haven’t registered with the delica forum yet, knowing that there’s quite a few delica owners viewing this site who might help with this problem.
Been to look at a Royal Delica, 8) it’s an exceptionally clean, low mileage motor, except for three problems, cracked windscreen, damaged os headlamp glass and very knackered and noisy front windscreen wiper linkage, (both bushes worn where spindle comes through front panel)
Windscreen and headlamp are certain MOT failures and MOT is due in late August. Seller will drop windscreen cost off the selling price, and will negotiate price for other faults.
Phoned a few local windscreen company’s for cost of replacement windscreen and got similar answers “A what! Sorry not listed, you’ll have to go the main dealer”
Can any one point me in the right direction for suppliers and prices of these bits, please.

Hi Matey
Come over to the darkside you wont be sorry
Right re your questions, windscreen hmmm have you tried whatever company your insurance company may reccomend? normally they will say if you go to so and so we will do the diffrence as they have deals with them normally?,the best bet may be to get a qoute from main dealer for it (and make sure your sat down) buy the vehicle(if you wish to that is) then claim of the insurance if your fully comp then that way you pay the first £50 or what ever it is,that way you should get away with it,also try phoneing autoscreen network a ring in brighton 01273 747174 and speak to john(tell him Marc, alltrades electrician told you to phone him) ,ask him if he can get a screen for the mitsubishi L400 delica spacegear he *should* know what your talking about, just tell him its the big 4x4 the pajero type one but bigger lol .
Not too sure re the bushes on the wipers tho, again main dealer maybe a shot, also if you phone brighton mitsubishi at brighon and speak to doug, he is upto speed on the delicas 01273 388808 ,again headlight glass too really ,you could try this mob they occasionally have delicas in
Hygrade Motor Spares
Rothwell Street

Tel: 0161-682-6034
also this company here http://www.mdocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1069 they also do a lot of spares by the looks of it ,one of the members got a complete L400 speedo unit for little money so you may well give them a call as they could probably get you the screen too.
Hope that helps you in your quest, come join us over at mdocuk we dont bite come register and have a good look round, all the best

Thanks Marc for your help, very informative, I’ll give those guys a call tomorrow. The windscreen cost is my main worry, I don’t think my insurance company is going wear another windscreen this year, I’ve already had two in my Paj in under five months
The only reason I was interested in this Delica was because it was white, unusual I thought, and if I gave it a pink bottom I’d have a matching set, so to speak. Maybe I’ll look around for another Delica with less problems, and yes I will register on Delica site

my windscreen wipers have the same problem - and mine is a royal as well!!!
i've found a mechanic who thinks he can get one off a paj that they are breaking, i found a delica one in a salvage yard for around £150 - way more expensive than i was hoping!!! so my wipers still don't sit properly, but at least they work for the time being!
if the motor is clean in every other way, then i'd say go for it, a clean royal is a hard thing to find!! a lot of them are really used, have seen some really ropey ones before finding the one we have now.. and in white?!!!
hopefully you can get the windscreen sorted, can't suggest anywhere other than ringing around the major windscreen places tho mate, maybe try UK autoglaze, 0800 953 0047 at least they had heard of a delica before!!! i had to call them out to sort out a catch on my back window - would definately use them again
hope to see you over the darkside soon |
