Hi, Im having problems with my front heater.
I have had the shogun 2.8L for about a month and when i brought it i didn't have no heat from the front heater.
I replaced rad, rad cap, thermostat and i have the stuff to do the fan but haven't done that yet.
My heater works in the rear.
I noticed if i keep the car still and running i start getting a bit of warm air, if i drive for on motorway it blows freezing cold.
I have flushed the matrix out and got loads of rubbish out of it ( looks like wood bark)
but still cant get it working.
When i flushing the matrix it was really slow to start with but seems ok when i put it back together.
Im a bit stuck on what else can be causing it, other than putting it into a garage for them to look at.

Try flushing it both ways.

If you have some water running through the matrix then it might be worth putting some RadFlush or similar in and running it for a few days to loosen any remaining muck in the matrix.

Other people on here have had the same problem - the water pressure from a hosepipe is higher than produced by the water pump, so what seems a good flow with the hose isn't so good from the water pump.

It could also be the heater flaps not working correctly. Maybe the matrix is getting up to temperature but the flaps are not letting the hot air out.

I don't know on that one.

There are only two things that control the heat - hot water going through the matrix and the flaps letting hot air out of the matrix.

It seems like you have got the matrix clear - so that leaves something odd happening with the flaps. Unless there is still some crud in the matrix.

I have drained the system again today and it looked pretty clean doing it both ways.
Let it run on tick ovee till it got to temp. Had warm ish heat but I could live with luke warm. Drove it around town for 20 mins and it was still blowing warm ish.
Got on the motorway and about 20 mins later it was cold again. But the back was nice and hot.
Got off the motorway and the front heater just started to get warm but not as warm as the start of the drive.
I'm so lost now on what to do.

As the rear heater is getting hot, that eliminates anything to do with the engine bay - as the coolant is clearly getting hot enough. I also assume that you've got aircon switched off whilst troubleshooting.

So that leaves the front matrix, flaps, and heater controls. There are four types of heater controls on the Mk2, basic poverty spec manual, semi-auto electronic and LED or LCD full electronic climate control. With full climate control there could be a fault in that (or one of the sensors) making it think the interior is hotter than it actually is - so it pumps out cold air to cool it down. Or an issue with one of the motors that control the flaps to select hot air from the matrix, or cold air from before it.

What sort of heater controls do you have? Also remember that the middle vents (either side of the clock) can be selected as outside air rather than heater/aircon air using the blue/white slider below them.

Sorry didn't see this reply.
I have no air con I have the cheapest one going lol
The front heater seems to work if I'm still for 15 mins or if I'm driving around town.
When on the motorway it gets cold after 20 mins ish.
Then around town starts getting warm again.
Also noticed if I turn fan off I will get more hot air than if I turn it to setting 4,
I have drained the system again and flushed it. Clean water from all front matrix, both ways.
New thermostat and new rad and rad cap
I'm so lost on what else it could be.
I don't want to pay for a new matrix if it's not that.

After 40 mins last night it went cold. So I decided to turn back heater off to see if heat from back would move to the front.
It started to get a bit warmer in the front.
I checked coolant before left and I have no lost any.
I'm so lost on what is causing this?
Any one for ideas or know anyone that can look at it?
