Would that make it work then blow cold after 40 mins on the motorway ? |
If the front matrix is clear and the rear heater gets hot then it can't be much else. |

Did you ever get to the bottom of your problem ? I would of said your front heater matrix is partially blocked, so your getting hot water flowing through it but not all of it, it's common for a heater matrix to plug up some of its internal cores causing the hot water to bypass all of its cores , common symptoms of this is cold or Luke warm air from vents can get warmer when sat revving the engine, and then cool off after a while or back down to idle. |

I have flushed system out and loads of bits came out from matrix. I got slightly better heat but it still goes cold/Luke warm after 45 mins ish. |

I have noticed that the bottom of the radiator stays cold and so is the pipe at the bottom of the rad. Even after a hour drive. |

You have either got an extremely good radiator or your thermostat isn't opening - which I would have thought would cause your engine to overheat, but it obviously isn't overheating. |

Brand new rad and brand new thermostat.
Tested thermostat in hot water and it opened. |

Very strange.
I have a twin core 40mm all aluminium radiator and my bottom hose gets hot(ish).
I wonder if your water pump isn't pushing coolant round the engine properly - which might explain your cool heater. |

It's a cheap and easy job - might be worth doing it. |

I had something similar in my v6 where the rear worked but not the front, but that was an air lock in the system took me ages to clear it. |

The system has been drained loads so surly the air lock would of gone by now?
I did notice last night that the back heater is not as boiling jot as I would like.
I think I'm going to replace the water pump and I might get another thermostat just to safe. |

thats how i got my airlock from draining the system and flushing out the matrix. Just a thought though might be worth a try before you try anything else and it doesnt cost anything to do it. |

After cleaning water system with dish washer tablets I tried to drain from bottom drain plug and it was blocked. I unblocked it and loads of bits come out of it. I washed more water through. I then replaced the water pump.
So after a new rad, rad cap, thermostat, water pump. God knows how much aint freeze.
I now have really good heat.
I'm going to put 2 more dishwasher tablets in to make sure it's clean. But I know have very good heat for the winter.
Thank you for all your help. |
