Hi im am going to change my stereo and i have been looking at the wiring diagrams but i have a few questions:
How do you tell if the car is fitted with a factory amplifier and will this effect an after market stereo head unit (as far as i can tell its connected via a DIN lead, if fitted)
The window glass aerial is a very weak signal can i add a booster or is there one fitted already
I have just bought a wiring adapter for the stereo so waiting for that to turn up before ripping the old stereo out, but any help would be great before hand.
My car is a 2003 shogun warrior 3.2 DID swb
Thanks |

I have changed my stereo now but in case anybody else is planning to do it i have a few pointers.
It's easier to remove the centre trim so wires can be moved around.
The stereo coming out (mitsubishi version) is larger than the single din (cage) of a standard stereo which means it wont fit it's too small and there is no where to attach it too, but what i did is take the locking plates of the old stereo (held on by a single screw, 1 each side) and drill 2 holes in the side of a standard din cage and then attach them to that. I had to put the stereo in the cage as i did the screws up otherwise the stereo would not slide in to the cage. once attached i plugged in the power/speaker connector, the mic and glass aerial connector. the aerial is a bit short in length so be careful when fitting as it may pop out without you knowing. Then I slid in the whole unit and with a little bit of force the clips secured to the surround. fitted the centre trim and put on the bezel looks good and very secure. But i dont know if i will be able to remove it very easily now i modded the din cage, but hopefully i wont need to for a long time.
The glass areial has a booster fitted below the rear window which now works really well in my new stereo but poorly in the mitsubishi one. you just need to remember to power it. The blue wire from the harness is the booster cable which hooks up to my stereo perfectly as it has a power aerial wire (also blue) without this you dont get a very good signal.
very pleased with the job and now the sub woofer and amp is in place it's very loud and clear. |

Glad you got it sorted - sounds harder than on the MkII which was a matter of swapping the mounting brackets off the old unit and bolting it in.
(yes - I have put the bezel around it now) |

Hi yes it is a lot harder, the stereo was an aftermarket one from a mk2 which i transfred across, thought it would be a straight swap like a mk2 but thats an asumption lol |
