Hi,
Probably a daft question, but does anyone else with a MK3 find the steering wheel does not go high enough for you to be able to see the various instrument panel lights without hunching down?
I am 6'1", have the seat at as low as it will go and the steering as high as it will go, yet I cannot see the full beam light or the fuel low light while just sitting normally as the top of the steering wheel obscures it.
Oversight by Japanese designers, or should my wheel go higher?
Thanks! |

Mine's a MkII and the wheel obscures some of my lights - I put it down to Europeans being taller than the Japanese designers, so they didn't factor it in to their calculations. |

Anyone unfortunate enough to find themselves behind the wheel of the Fiat 500XL will discover that this isn't an issue that relates to the stereotypical dimensions of a Japanese driver! I drove a friend's example of Fiat's entry in the "sport utility" class recently and found that, although they solved the Italianate short leg, long arm driving position, the instrument panel on that car was well and truly hidden behind the rim of the steering wheel. I'm 6 foot 2, but as my torso never grew and my legs never stopped growing, my head only just reaches above the dash rail in most cars, Pajero Mini included, but in that Fiat, even I couldn't see how quickly we were travelling at the time. Maybe that's why I drive the bB as daily transport, its speedometer is visible to anyone in the car, even those in the back row:
and yes, a Mini really is that narrow, but at least its steering wheel doesn't obscure the instrument panel, mostly because its wheel is massive. Maybe the full size Pajero has a smaller wheel as an afterthought, fitted at the point when its production engineering team discovered that they had enough left over in the build budget to offer its drivers a PAS option? |

Cheers guys. I was on the verge of ripping apart the steering column to figure out what is stopping it going higher on the off chance it was broken, clearly though what I need to do is just get used to the hunching, lol. |
