|
|
Hi all,
I've just changed my head gaskets on my 94 shogun. I could not see any thing wrong with both head or block. The change was due to a blown gasket and throwing out a lot of steam. After change, same thing is still happening. A couple of questions.
1. Are there engines prone to cracking?
2. If it's the piston rings, can I change without removing engine.
3. How easy is it to remove sump with engine in.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Iwan. |

The head would need pressure testing and an experienced inspection and testing, only after that would you have reason to believe the head may not be faulty.
Piston rings have no bearing on the problem you've described. |

I agree - worn piston rings would cause low compression and perhaps high oil usage but they couldn't produce steam.
Are you sure the head gasket had blown - it is quite possibly a head that has cracked. A visual inspection is not a reliable way of deciding if a head has cracked. |

Thanks guys. I'm borrowing a compression tester from a mate. It did have a blown head gasket then I changed then. I will also do a pressure test on the cooling system to see if I'm losing any water in that cylinder. I will keep you posted as how I get on. |

As your engine is now running, remove the radiator cap when cold and look at the coolant in the neck. allow to ward up. Any sign of air bubbles in the coolant indicates a gas leak, either from the new head gasket or a crack in the head. |

Hi all and happy new year.
Sorted, the fault was the injector. This gave the same fault as if a head was cracked. But runs sweet. Very happy chappy. 😂🤣😁 |
