Hello, i own a 1997 pajero 4m40 automatic. so my gears are not shifting correctly. my vehicle quickly shift to 3rd gear once i floor it. and i dont down shift properly. i took my vehicle to the mechanic here in sri lanka, he said it might be the kickdown cable. there is a OBD1 or 2 port in the driver side. and my mechanic wont believe that gears in my vehicle shift electronicky. can someone please explain the process. where should i start looking. there is a Throttle Position Sensor located in my vehicle to. also the glow plug control unit is removed from my vehicle.  please help me.

Reset the TPS and kickdown position to the factory settings (sorry I don't have the spec handy) then begin a process of trial and error. Try leaving the TPS centre and adjust the kickdown both ways for a few test runs, it should be obvious which way creates an early or late gear shift. Fairly easy job, access to kickdown is best with intercooler removed but after a few runs you could have this sorted in a day. Not sure about glow plug unit, I'm guessing its not so cold in Sri Lanka?
