My Pajero recently had some work on a cooling system leak whilst away. I discovered on returning home that the O/D now doesn’t activate. I’ve read on this forum that it could be related to sensor wire being dislodged. When reccying the engine bay I notice 3 sensors close together (right side of engine), and one on its own (in front) without a wire connected (looking like it should have - shiny terminal), a unconnected black wire, and broken twin wires.

Would anyone be able to shed any light on them and whether there is anything that should be re-connected?

I’ll try and attach a pic - here is what I found:

1-sensor furthest away (under rad top hose) - green wire with orange/red
2-sensor middle (white sheath) - black wire and green with white wire
3-sensor nearest - blue with white wire
4-disconnected black wire with plug (doesn’t seem to fit anywhere)
5-broken yellow wire and black wire (together in sheath)
6-sensor at front (terminal is shiny as though something was attached)

Can anyone identify each sensor/item on this list for me?
Are any of these related to my O/D issue?
Also, is this a red herring re O/D not operating?

Cheers.

Have a read here: O/D Temp. sender. location and override (earthing)

Even though the images are dead, the descriptions should be enough to help you.

Lazy fix but could useful for testing - the tip of my OD sender broke off and I found that black wire to nowhere is a spare earth, connect your sender wire to this earth and you've bypassed the OD circuit, you just have to remember no motorways until she's warmed up.

Thanks for the info. The article is where I started before writing my post.
However, to confound things, the O/D just started working. All I did was unplug each sensor and reconnect, so there might be a dirty joint there. The trouble I am having is identifying each sensor and these spare wires I have. Trying to make sense if it all.
