|
|
Can i just remind every one to check what car you are advising people to use in 4h when towing....
Only Shogun and Pajero's from MK2 onwards fitted with SuperSelect can be used on the road in 4H
MK1's and most Shogun Sports or Challengers and old syle L200's do not have super select and will get damaged in 4h on the road
I have a Shogun Sport Parked at my house with a smashed cv joint - owner was told to tow in 4h..... Shogun Sports are not super select and must not be used in 4h on the road
Super Select cars have a viscous center diff that can be locked for off road use
So :-
If your transfer box leaver has positions 2H, 4H , 4HLC, 4LLC you have super select and can use 4h on the road
If your transfer box leaver has 2H, 4H, 4L you do not have super select and MUST NOT use 4h on the road or a hard surface |

4H or 2H are the only ones you should use on a road with a solid surface. So use 4H to engage 4 wheel drive mode when towing.
4Hlc and 4Llc lock the centre differential, meaning that the front and rear wheels must turn at the same rate, and so if you want to go round a corner, at least one of the tyres must be able to slip slightly. On a tarmac road, they won't, and you risk damaging the centre differential. 4Hlc is the same as 4H but with the centre diff locked, 4Llc switches to a lower ratio (again with the centre diff locked) which is useful when you need to come down a hill slowly, or generally need more control at a slow speed.
This posting refers to the fact that on some Mitsubishi vehicles there is no option for 4 wheel drive without locking the centre diff, so you can't use 4 wheel drive on tarmac roads in those. |

Just discovered this thread....
And could you make it a sticky please for newbies...?
Anyway....
Newbie question (s), How do I recognise Mk2 Paj's? (What year did they start etc )?
And do all Mk 2's come with super select?
I've seen people call it something different, is it the same...?
Just don't want to be caught out when looking / buying.... |

Shogun mk1 not Super Select
mk2 (1991 ON) shogun/pajero are SS
There are some variants iirc but not usually imported into UK
shogun sport/L200 not SS
2.8 challenger SS
2.5 challenger not SS |

To add ,on the 4wd stick it will have 2h(rwd) 4h/4hlc(4wd high locked centre)4Llc(4wd Low ration locked centre)
2h/4h ok on normal roads,4hlc and 4Llc only use on loose surfaces like mud/snow etc to allow wheel slip. |

SS is available on the very latest L200 derivatives. The ones with the curvy cabs. It's always worth checking though if you're not sure. |
