As part of my cylinder head strip down I decided to give the HPFP a good clean and check over as I'd also been suffering a fuel pressure problem. There's very little on the net about the internals of the HPFP but I eventually tracked down a Russian website with some pictures. Below are the photos of the pump disassembled and also the tool I had to make to get the main securing nut off. I will be polishing the internal plates and then puttin it back together and hoping for the best.

Well, so far so good. I carefully polished the plates with some household metal polish, flushed everything out with carb cleaner and replaced the micro filters. It's all back together now and seems to be working fine. I no longer seem to have a fuel pressure code showing but that could be down to the new fuel pressure sensor I fitted, the new microfilters or the cleaning of the injectors which I also undertook whilst everything was apart. I didn't clean the plates in the HPFP to a mirror finish but I certainly got the varnish and fine layer of dirt off them from 19 years worth of petrol flow.
