s.s through a belt now wont start

car through a alternator belt which through the timing out. put new belts on replaced a broken rocker and two broken cam shells . all back together but wont start. got compression
turning it over by hand but just seems to spin over when trying to start. anyone any ideas before scrapping it

Crank pulley timing marks can be inaccurate so double check timing but try not to use the crank pulley....

how else can you do it . thats what timming marks are for. setting timming

Yes your quite right thats what timing marks are for but the pulley, or to give it its proper name "harmonic damper" (shock absorber for the crank shaft made out of two parts of metal and joined with rubber) sometimes fails and the marks are no longer where they should be (the inner spinning in the outer)

Some people manage to get a thin piece of wire down No 1 heater plug hole and while tuning the engine slightly find TDC this way  Very Happy
