I have a 1995 2.8 auto lwb td Pajero. It is supposedly a limited edition. Inside it looks like my Exceed without arm rests and split rear seat. It certainly dose not perform like my Exceed.
As there is no hand book with it only a log book as I would call it.
Being an auto and as I am having some issues with it I want to drain the box as it probably has had off the shelf garage ATF put in it!
I have noted comments but not sure which oil should go back into MY gearbox, it has about 230k on the clock.
About 2 years ago the gearbox was take out and opened as it was sluggish when cold, first 100 yards or so was like having the handbrake on then off we go. Everything was washed and cleaned relays inside were checked, all put back together and filled with ATF !!!
Still sluggish, oh well.
I have stripped and rebuilt engines etc but run away from gearboxes

So what do I put in the gearbox please. Brand, type or similar approved.
Thank you in anticipation,
TJ

I always put Millermatic SPIII WS into my 2.8 auto.

Many people on here use it.

As above, your box specifications were Dia Queen SP II and when Mitsubishi replaced the transmissions they introduced Dia Queen SP III they made it backwards compatible so the dealers only had SP III in stock to prevent someone putting SP II into an SP III box and the dealers having a huge claim against them.

When they introduced the newer specification to SP III for 2007 on models they specified SP III+ and this is also backwards compatible and can be used in SP III or SP II autoboxes without issue, and the latest specification was SP 4 when other Korean vehicles, or Korean based vehicles such as those from Dodge in America specified SP 4 they could make one fluid for all of them and Mitsubishi dealers only stock the latest SP 4 specification and it is safe for all Mitsubishi vehicles.

Korean and some Thailand built vehicles specify Dia Queen and to overcome this they introduced WS specifications as many manufacturers simply rebranded Dia Queen fluid.

You may not have has Dia Queen SP II or SP III fluid in your box as many garages replaced it with Dexron II or Dexron III as they assumed Dia Queen SP II was the same as Dexron II and Dia Queen SP III is the same as Dexron III and it isn't, the Dia Queen SP fluids are thinner and have a much higher specification than their Dexron counterparts and the main one is that Dia Queen runs much hotter than Dexron and while Dia Queen will withstand this heat, Dexron wont and it quickly breaks down and destroys your autobox and the drive plates are the first thing to go, these are paper and impregnated with the ATF to stop them wearing and burning; if they stripped and cleaned your box then this suggests the wrong fluid has been used at some time and the black is the paper of the drive plates wearing out.
